IDENTIFIED AS KIDNAFCK. Walter McGee Named u Gang Leader by Mary McElroy. Kansas City, July 25 (^—Walter McGee. former Oregon convict, on trial with his life at stake, was Identified from the witness stand today by Miss Mary McElroy, daughter of the city manager, as the leader of the kidnapers who abducted her from her bathroom and held her captive until paid 130,000 ransom. Answering questions directed by an assistant prosecutor, Miss McElroy recounted the story of the appearance of the kidnapers at her home, recalled their threats, and pictured for the jury the 29 hours she spent manacled to the wall of a floorless basement room used as e. chicken roost. "Who r«M you to 'shut up, or I'll shoot through the bathroom door?'" ?M. W. O'Hern, the assistant prosecutor asked. "Walter McGee." "Who said, 'We're kidnapers; we're going to take you away, and if you behave yourself you won't get hurt?'" "Walter McGee." "Who ordered you to 'hurry up, get dressed; you're going with us?'" "Walter McGee." Miss McElroy slumped down In the witness chair and wept as she described an incident hitherto unrevealed in connection with her imprisonment. She related that McGeee had demanded that she remove her cloth- Ing before her release so that she could be searched to determine whether she had concealed any evidence that might be used against members of the gang if they should be captured. "I told them I would rather die •than do that; that I never would do it." she said. She added that McGee did not cttempt to force her to submit to the search.
