Church Marks its 75th Year A big day is planned for Sunday by Bethany Lutheran church in celebration of its 75th anniversary. Morning worship is planned for 10:45 a. m., with a program, featuring featuring a pageant, at 2:30 p. m. and a young people's program at 7:30 p. m. Seventy five years ago the first Bethany Lutheran congregation was formed by Danish residents of Ludington with the first Scandinavian Scandinavian service conducted at what is now the Clemensen home on South Washington avenue. The same year the church, the same building now in use, was erected on South Madison street between First and Second streets and in 1901 the congregation purchased purchased the half block south of Fere Marquette school, upon which stood the home of its owner, Dr. Gundersen. This residence became became the rectory and the church was moved to its present location, just south of the rectory. The Rev. Mr. S. C. Madsen, builder of the church, was the first pastor, serving the little congrega>- tion until the summer of 1882. For a few months there was no resident resident clergyman but, on Oct. 1, 1882, the Rev. Mr. Hans Chris;offer Chris;offer Strandskov came to assume ;he duties of pastor. He left Ludington Ludington on his retirement in 1884, with missionary ministers from Grand Rapids and Manistee serv- ng the church until 1888 when the Rev. Mr. J. Pedersen came here, staying here as pastor until 1893. There were few Danish ministers in this country and for four years ;he local church was without a resident pastor, missionaries from 5rand Rapids, the Rev. Mr. P. Gotker of Manistee and the Rev. Ir.
