A large framed engraving of tbe dead president and his father and grandfather, both famous Frenchmen, was placed at the base of the coffin, above a large .wreath of cedar. The ceremonies in the cathedral were set for 2 o'clock, and by that hour fully 6000 people had assembled, filling every available point, even to the small galleries Immediately above the altar. Before that hour there had been some ceremonies, principally at the French consulate. Pursuant to a call published In the morning papers, - the committee of arrangements assembled at 1 o'clock at the residence of Mr. Rivoire, on Dumaine street. The committee consisted of leaara. Rivoire, Senae, Vidalat, Larroude, Brunet, Dubos, Pocs and Vergnole. . These gentlemen proceeded in carriages at once to tha consulate, where they were received by Con - aril O. B. D'Anzlade and his chancellor. Mr. Jos. Thlebaud, both in full uniform. and the former wearing the decorations
