"Jeff Plateau" Ready for Big Opening Friday Night; Abies Gang to Battle Frankfort Team It was a big heave-ho of relief that Abie Masters and Milt Lev-erenz let go yesterday afternoon, when they decided their worries over the new Jeff sports field are about over. A few details remain, but these are mostly routine. The cement grandstand, seating capacity 2,800; the fences; the lights, with a 60,000- watt power; tne scoreboard; tne extra bleachers, seating 2,200; and almost all the rest of it are all ready for the opening! tomorrow evening, at 7:30 o'clock. Frankfort, high school will be the Bronchos' opponent, and among Mr. Masters' other worries over the new field you can add his own Jefferson high school eleven. PLENTY OF WORRY Considering that the Bronchos are on the spot more and more every time they win a North Central conference football game; that this year's eleven, while flashy on attack, seems weak on defense; that Frankfort is keyed up to an extremely high pitch as it seeks its first football victory in history over Jeff; that the Nighthawks, impressive winners by high scores in their first three games, have their best team in years; and that . . . ad infinitum well, you've got something to fret about, haven't you? ous battles, fans around the goal-lines should see most of the real action. The scoreboard is located at the south end, and will again be operated by, Jeff machine shop students, who will keep it up to the play by means of a telephone arrangement with a boy following the action. The field itself is perfectly level except for a center crown going lengthwise which drains off the rain. GREAT RECORD It was only six seasons ago, that a Jefferson high school eleven rapidly rising in football ability under Abie Masters after numerous mediocre seasons, including one in which it failed to score a point had the temerity to enter the famed North Central conference. The Bronchos were aptly initiated with a 7-0 loss by K6komo. since has
