Ralph & Maxine Elwart's 50th Anniversary
Sunday, November 17,1996 Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Elwart on their wedding day ... and today Elwarts celebrate golden anniversary Ralph and Maxine Elwart of Arlington Heights celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary by attending an anniversary Mass by Cardinal Joseph Bernardin on Sept. 8 at Holy Name Cathedral. They received a papal blessing from Rome as well. A family celebration hosted by their children took place yesterday yesterday at Mr. Peter's in Mount Prospect. The couple met when Maxine was 8 and Ralph was 11. They lived only one block away from each other. Ralph enlisted in the Navy Seabees in 1943 and was in the Pacific until 1946. Upon his return, he was engaged to Maxine. Maxine. They were married on Sept. 7,1946, at St. Benedict's Church in Chicago. The Elwarts have three children: children: Ralph Elwart Jr. of Lake Forest; Michael Elwart of Marietta, Marietta, Ga.; and Marian (Elwart) Irmen of Egg Harbor, Wis.; and seven grandchildren. Maxine, 68, was born in Chicago. Chicago. She was employed by Venture Venture Stores, retiring in 1987 after 17 years of service. Maxine enjoys enjoys being in a card club and playing bingo. Ralph, 71, was born in Chicago. He was employed as a photo engraver, engraver, apprenticing at Reliable Etchcraft and retiring from Superior Superior Gravure in 1985 after 39 years of service. Ralph's favorite pastimes include golf (he scored a hole-in-one in 1993!) and reading. reading. Both Elwarts enjoy visiting with their children and grandchildren. grandchildren.
