AUGUST 11, 1923 EVERYBODY'S FAIR STARTS NEXT TUESDAY Four Big Days of Features, Races and Exposition—A Good Fair to-Help A Good County— Get Tickets Early. The gates to the grounds will' open early next. Tuesday morning, morning, When Murphysboro was wondering what she would do for a fair several years ago, after the old fair had been discontinued, George Gray came along from down Vienna way and salvaged the fair, giving the people a week's entertainment each' year. First it was a race, fair, little else. Then the exhibit stock began 'drifting in again and new farm interest was expressed. This year the fair at (lie grounds in North Murphysboro is, to he the mecca for thousands. Hundreds and hundreds of farmers have become interested, interested, and that is what makes a county fair. Splendid feature acts, real thrillers, promotion camps depicting the profess profess in many lines, horticultural and stock and produceexhibits, splendid race and saddle horses, auto-polo, band concerts^, school 'exhibits, laard road demonstration-camps, industrial mechanics, automobile shows, scores of shows, thrilling night games where polo players will take their lives in their hands and a grand display of fireworks nightly—these and many other things will' jam the grounds day and night. Horse racing is one of the great American sports. Races at this fair have for years had the reputation for speed and fairness. Murphysboro 'people long ago recognized in George Gray, a fair enthusiast. Joe Borgers, for his life time a hard worker and leading citizen in the Jackson County community, gives his word that some of the best exhibits a, fair can possibly have will be this fair's pride. Messrs. Borgers and Gray urge that a big community interest attend this fair. Big family reunions would be most welcome. The people are invited invited to see Mr. Gray or Mr. Borgera prior to Tuesday for information or advice calculated to make their fail- week more enjoyable. The fair is a Murphysboro asset. The city administration is encouraging encouraging the free participation of our citizens citizens in the week's program and will take steps to help make street -traffic -traffic to and from the grounds most safe. Sunday, Monday, then the big exposition exposition starts. City fair goers .are urged to get their season tickets at once and spend at least a part of every day at the grounds. A formal Polo announcement follows: follows: Tuesday the Jackson county fair will open in full bloom, presenting a new and novel feature this year with a big night show in front of the grand stand.includiug the Original British and American Auto Polo teams and a delightful concert by Newberry's Famous Exposition band. Other features features will be provided each night which will include the horse show and live stock exhibition. Newberry's band is famous throughout the southern southern fair courses.
