Thomas J. lliggiiw, a former manlier of the state legislature aud j prominent Shenandoah business mac, i died at the family residence on Sun-. day evening after an illness lasting over a period of seven weeks. He . was one of the staunchest Democrats in Schuylkill county and until the ; time of his death was actively interested in the welfare of the peoples of the anthracite. coal fields. Mr. Higgins was a member of the ; legislature at the time the first ap- j propriation was voted for the Foun- j tain Springs Hospital and was one i of the staunchest supporters of the . measure. Atliie same session he in- j 'reduced a bill appropriating $oD,009 ! f r the establishment of a miners' j orphan school, but the bill was de-j feated. A wife and one daughter, Miss ' Ella, survive. The funeral will be held from the Annunciation church on Thursday morning. ;
