Articles By Faculty Published ANNVILLE, Pa. - Three members of the chemistry department at Lebanon Valley College have recently had articles published in various professional journals. Dr. David N. Bailey, assistant professor of chemistry, is the author of an article entitled "The Determination of Ascorbic Acid" which appeared in the July issue of The Journal of Chemical Education. The work from which this article is derived was done as a part of the faculty research grant Dr. Bailey received for the summer of 1972. Also included under this grant are two soon- to-be-published experiments for Willard Grant Press. Dr. Owen A. Moe, Jr., assistant professor of chemistry, recently had two articles published in the June 4 issue of Biochemistry. The first, co-authored by Gordon G. Hammes, is entitled "A Study of the Binding of Thiamine Diphosphate and Thiochrome Diphosphate to the Pyruvate Dehydrogenase Multienzyme" Complex.'.' The second, entitled "Fluorescence Energy Transfer Between the Thiamine Diphosphate and Flavine Adenine Dinucleotide Binding Sites on the Pyruvate Dehydrogenase Multienzyme Complex?" was co-authored by D. A. Lerner and Gordon G. Hammes. The research work described in these publications was carried out at Cornell University • from 1971-1973 under a National Institute of Health post-doctoral / fellowship. Dr. James N. Spencer, assistant professor of chemistry, has published an article entitled . "Potential Function Model of Weak and Strong Hydrogen Bonds" in the July issue of The Journal of Physical Chemistry. The paper was ov-authored by George Casey, Jr. and John Buckfelder, candidates for the doctorate degree at Iowa State University, and H. D. Schreiber, who is completing his doctoral work at the University of Wisconsin. All three are graduates of the chemistry department at Lebanon Valley College.
