On motion of District Attorney Ogden. the following named accused were discharcid. there being no evidence evidence to implicate, them in the outrage: Lati Meche. Maurice Smith. Joseph Meche. Joseph Smith. Cclcstin Levergne and Charles Mwluncou. The facts of the case, as detailcl by these and other witnesses for the state, are substantially substantially as follows : Several of the accused met ut the house of Leoval Meche, which was the starring point : leaving this point they were met by neveral others until they numbered eleven, when they started together to hunt up a mulatto woman known as 'Fille. who some time Muce hod be come involved in . law suit with Arvil lion Beard, iu which he was cut. and feanug a suit for damages, it was determined determined to "Teculato'' her. ami thus deter her from commencing the threat ened suit. After viwting several cabins awl not rinding the woman, they learned that she was at Mr. J. B. Diiplechiif s house, where nhe was engaged iu nurs ing a sick child. They went thither. amving about 1 o'ebx-k o'ebx-k o'ebx-k in the morn ing, and calling Dnpiechiu. were axed who they were. Palgont an mertt I. At this point Dnplechin attempti-! attempti-! attempti-! to get ont of bed. when Falgout jumped in at the wimlow. got on the lel.anl cover ing Dnpiechiu with a pistol, called for the crowd to come in. About this time the woman came to Dnplechin's door and begged for protection. The regu Istors. who had iu the meantime en tered the house, grabbed her. -the -the at the time catching hold of Mr. Dnpiechiu. claiming protection. A scuttle ennueU. and she was dragged troru the honse into the yanL In the melee Dnplechin had iteciired ponsesnion ol ius gun. which was ioadel with buckshot, and going to the door tired at the crowd in the yard. Almost simultaneously the shot was returned, tilling tho breast, face and hands of Mr. Dnplechin with shot aud bringing him to the door. It was this shot of Mr. Dnplechin's that brought Gerrasin Meche to the ground seriously wounded. The regulators then hred a voiley into the bourn aud disperseL bearing their wounded com rade with them. Falgout, in his testimony, said. "This gang is an organization known as reg ulators,'' but Berne rou testified, that the true name of the organization was "The Whites.' The acknowledged leader or captain of the band was Looval Meche. The evidence adduced on the examin at ion was conclusive as to the participation participation in the outrage of the following parties, viz : Leoval Mecne. Cypnroyan .nerne. iastie 31 nun. unaries Allot, Gerrasin Meche. Eugeue Meche. Ursin Boudrvau. Arvillion (Blanc) Beard and Jerome Meche. and they, with the ex ception of Gerrasin Muche. who is under guard at his House, were remanded to the ntmsh prison, without the benefit of bail, to await such action as the grand jury may take at the next crimi nal term of the district court, which convene in November next.
