Mitchell, Towne In Bay Sail Victories By M. J. NICOL Never has competition been keener, or weather conditions as favorable as they were Sunday when more than ten s6ore sailboats competed in the All-Clubs Regetta of San Francisco Bay. So all the greater the victories won by two of our Marin County sailors. Punky Mitchell of Belvedere was first across the finish line, and winner in the Golden Gate Class. His “Result II” is usually co-skip- pered by his brother Emory, but, he was crewing on Ramona. Both Mitchell boys have salt water running in their veins, and in spite of their youth are up there with the top notch sailors who are gaining Marin nautical fame. Roger Towne, owner and skipper of Farallone Clipper “VIP” beat the formidable Stephens aboard “Debit,” and a hot victory this is . . . “Debit” has never been beaten since Farrallones have been racing as a class. Last year Towne, who then had the “Farallon”, did win the second leg of the St. Francis race, but lost on the overall count. So we expect hot competition this year. “VIP" will be out to dethrone Debit permanently, and Roger Towne is just the boy who might do it. Jake Wosser did a terrific catchup job when he had to beach in order to fix a Halyard, had a 10- minute late start, but, finished sixth. RESULTS SAIL RACE BEARS Trigger, Joan Scarborough St. F t .
