(News-Herald Photo) Del Rio Golfers District Champs SAN ANTONIO-The Del Rio Rams varsity golf squad's No. 1 unit of Rusty chalk, Chago Baker, Craig Gates, Andy Falls and Acton Brumley won the District 32-AAAA title with a total of 659 strokes to turn back the Fox Tech Buffaloes by 48 strokes at Willow Springs Golf Course in San Antonio Friday. Both the Rams and Buffs however, will advance to the~ regional tournament. __. Rusty Chalk led the Rams and the field with medalist honors on a total of 156 strokes with 77-79 rounds. Steve Emmons, playing on Del Rio's No. 2 unit, was second medalist on a total of 159 with rounds of 81-78 which earned him a regional trip. Del Rio's team scoring had Chalk, the medalist, with 156; Chago Baker with 84-79-163; Craig Gates with 82-86-168; Acton Brumley with 85-87-172 and Andy Falls with 90-88-178. The Rams No. 2 unit which finished fourth on a team total of 759 beat varsity crews from Edgewood, Memorial, Lanier and Kennedy. Steve Emmons made , his 2nd medalist role with 159 strokes and played with Jim Madison who had 170, Robin Roberts with 208 and Richard LaGow with 217. The 32-AAAA District meet placements had Del Rio's No. 1 crew first at 659; Fox Tech as the runnerup at 707; Eagle Pass in third place at 746; Del Rio's No. 2 unit in 4th at 759; Edgewood 5th with 790; Lanier 6th at 825; Kennedy seventh with 828 and Memorial last at 887. Del Rio golf coach C. D. Kirchner reported that Craig Gates, who was counted on for a possible medalist performance "ran into trouble at every turn. Gates encountered trees on the sides of the fairway, problems putting and just plain trouble everywhere as he shot two rounds of plus-80 golf," commented the head coach.
