"Eyewitness Writer Describes Thrilling Formosa Air Battle," Daily Herald (UT), 17 Oct 1944

UPI war correspondent George E. Jones recounting scenes from the Formosa Air Battle, one of the largest aerial engagements of the Pacific War. American carrier pilots' resounding victory over hastily assembled, less well-trained Japanese land-based pilots deprived the IJN of air cover for future operations and contributed greatly to the overwhelming victory scored by the US at the Battle of Leyte Gulf later in October.
