Ground Observers Praised For Work Supervisor Mar g a r e t Knowles paid tribute to members of the irving Ground Observer Corps post and members of their families for their performances during Operation Hour Hand, a special alert called at 3 AM Thursday by the Air Defense Command at the Dallas filter Center. L l Knowles and Chief Observer Raymond Story held the first watch after the alert was called, and then Pat Griffin, Tedd> \oung, William Highfill, Charlotte Steele, Betty Brackett and Ruth Davidson took over for subsequent watches, with the alert ending at 4 PM last Thursday. Standing by for additional watches if the alert had continued were Ermaline McClung, Anita Mullinax, Raymond Highfill, Jr., Teddy Youth, Ruth Davidson and Raymond Story. Lt. Knowles said that the group of observers “is the best*’ although the> have nothing to work with except a borrowed telephone.
