Benjamin Sprow, 38, was under arrest to - day as the murderer of Clarence Patterson, 26, who was shot and killed in his mountain home at Falrvlew, four miles from here last night Opening the door of his cabin - he me, Patterson received a full charge of buckshot squarely in the face. He died an hour later. State Police arrested Sprow, who last week was released on bail after a liquor raid' on his home near Pond Bank, Franklin county, with in a. few hours. He is said to have given information to police about the op erations of chicken thieves in the county. His sentence was one of five months for larcen: committed ai a mountain deer camp. With Patterson last night were his wife and Mr. and Mrs. Hanzy Stull. Stull set out on foot for Waynesboro to summon police and medical attention. v ; - Patterson had elso been charged with non - support and desertion by his wife. Sprow was in bed when arrested. According to Patterson's relatives, the men had been bitter enemies for two years. A sawed - off shotgun and an empty shell were found in his home, police said.
