State championships in track, baseball and tennis will wind up the year with the thinclads moving into Modesto, the netters clashing at Bakersfield and the baseball teams invading Norwalk. merritt College will defend its 1969 State Championship in track in Hie annual meet held in conjunction with the California Relays. The Merritt team will be led by sophomore Warren Edmonson who has the top times in the state in both the 100 yard dash and the 220 yard dash. ·Henry Stuckey will give the quarter milers everything they can handle as he has been clocked in 48.4 for one lap around the track. The Thunderbirds have a one-two punch in the 440 intermediate hurdles with both Ken iBracy and Larry Glenn having stopped the watches in 53.2. Merritt also has some top marks in the 440- yard and mile relays. The Thunderbirds have gone 40.8 in the quarter mile relay and 3:14.6 in the mile relay. The chief challenger for Merritt will be Southern California champ Bakersfield and runners-up Los Angeles CC and Mt. San An- College BY STEVE TADEVICH tonio, along with NorCal runner-up Fresno oc. ·Bakersfield is led -by Rick Hitchcock who among the leaders in boih the mile and mile w,th times of 4:08.1 and 8:59.8. The No. 1 south team will also be in runn ng in the 440 relay with a 40.8 time. Other names to watch are Willie Deckard from LACC who has the south's best times the 100 and 220, Ben Rico (Mt. San Antonio), Ron Gaddis (LA Pierce), and Jim Kirby (Long Beach CC) all under 48.0 in the 440, Ricco Sanehes (Moorpork), Manuel Green (La Valley), both under 1:51.0 and the 880. Armando Valencia (Grossmont, 4:07.4 mile), Ruben Chappins (Cerritos, 9:05.0 two mile), Mark Covert (LA Valley, .9:04.6 two mile) and Lance Babb (LACC, 14.0 120 and 52.5 440 IM) are other names to look
