BOY RAN IN FRONT OF CAR AND KILLED Sad Fatality at Dunmore John Barrett Fell Under Fender Crushed to Death. John Barrett, Jr., the son of John Barrett. Sr., of Dunmore was instantly killed at 10 o'clock yesterday morning by a street car at No. 10 switch on the Throop line. Barrett was 9 years of age. In company with another boy he was climbing a choke - cherry tree on the top of a high and steep embankment, the foot of which was about throe feet from the street car track. When the car was but a few feet away Barrett suddenly started down the bank and being unable to stop himself landed in the middle of the car track, within three or four feet of the approaching Throop car. Persons who witnessed the accident said that the motorman had no chance to avert the sad affair, as the little fellow was standing at the top of the bank one instant and the next was disappearing under the fender. . The car was stopped almost instantly but it was too late for the boy had bee caught and Jammed under the pilot board. Jacks were secured and the body removed from beneath the car and taken to a. nearby house, where a physician was summoned. The boy was dead when he arrived, death resulting from a broken neck. Both arms were also broken and the body terribly cut and bruised. The excitement was intense for some time after the accident, being due to false rumors that were circulated as to how the accident happened. An undertaker took charge of the remains and prepared them for burial, later removing them to the home of the boy's parents.
