Mrs. Fasteau, a lawyer and recent graduate of Harvard Law School, said she would debate Mrs. Schlafly any time and any place. This is believed to be the first public challenge of the ERA apponent. The ACLU Women's Rights Project has been actively involved in the Equal Rights Amendment ratification campaign. With only five more states needed for final ratification of the amendment, the Project is taking the initiative in aggressively challenging Mrs. Schlafly's "personal crusade to keep all of us from attaining our full rights as people and as United States, citizens." Mr. Fasteau believes that it is important to "demonstrate publicly that Schlafly doesn't know what she is talking about." In her challenge, she concluded: "The American people deserve to know the truth, and I expect to help get it to them." As yet, no response has been received from Mrs. Schlafly.
