wholesale trade of Fort Worth What is this city dol dr to Increase its wholesale and hotel capacity Fort Worths opportunity Is bore What nre its people Koine to do with It The Western Uulon telegraph company Is nocusod of aiding in the viola latlon of the anti gambling law by the Long Island olty pool rooms and the nowspnpors arc demanding that It bo held responsible for giving aid to such violation as would bo impracticable if Us aid had not been rendered TnE blggpst fish story comes from nn island in tbo South PaclUo It is said that a planter there has a pet In a sperm whale seventy kept up an audible olatter which the playgoers resented This Is an approved nud new form of Anglo mania TnE advance Fort Worth is making is nowhere better evidenced than in the offices of business nud professional men A few yenis ago any dingy don with cobwebs for drapery and floor stiinod by a vrocess not artistio was good enough but now thero are offices in this city thnt would be creditable anywhere in their neatness and In the taste shown In their appointments The primitive idea that Indifference to surroundings and to dress nre credoutlals In busluess is fast disappearing The Dry Goods Economist publlshod In New York nnd devoted to textile fabrics intersperses some pleasautry with dry statistics A cartoon Illustrative of a tour through the dry goods districts by the Alplue club has the tallest and most conspicuously placed box in tho lolleclioL labelled Fort Worth Tex and the boys are represented as using alpenstocks and ropes to reach It Another proof that this city Is not only on too In the eyes of business men but tba It has advantages worth reaching nfter and that it Is a city set on a bill not- be bidden and unknown A GREAT WORK FOR TEE ALLIANCES The ablest defender of the Alliance cause that has yet appeared Is a Southern gentleman writing under the pen name of Georgian and known to be a descendant of John Calhoun In a recent well written article In the Atlanta Constitution he labors lo show by plausible argumentation that the Alliance movement Is really In the line of Democratic progress and indeed a most powerful factor in furthering that progress and strengthening Democratlo lines in the West The objects of the Alliance he claims are the overthrow or sectionalism the reduction of taxation state and interstate control and not ownership of railroads end a sound stable and -flexible currency based on the great staples wheat and cotton and controlled by the laws of supply and demand The first of these the overthrow of sectionalism he deems prior and essential to the reduction of taxation and that the latter will not be bad until the former is a fact accomplished Upon the industrial economic and political union of the South and West depends the overthrow of sectionalism How can that union best be bad Through the fellowship and brotherhood of the Farmers Alliances so numerous in both sections When the farmers of the West and south fully realize that their interests nre Identical and their welfare and prosperity dependent on the same ocen cies nnd causes their political affiliation Is at hand It can uot be denied that there Is a great deal of truth in these statements of Mr Calhoun concerning the existence and best method of exterminating the sectional spirit that has been prollflo of untold injury and damage to the South The East has prospered marvel ously because the West and South were divided On the other band and for the same reason the agricultural classes In both those sections havj suffered Infinite damage and are to day woefully handicapped The flames of sectional animosity kept alive by tbo East have blinded the farmers or the West to the double fact that they were being constantly fleeced and that their Interests were as one with those of tbo South Of the Western and Southern farmers may it be said that while their enemies joined in hate they never joined in lovo Discord blind and unreasoning antipathy nnd a puerile spirit of sectionalism worthy only of children have kept them divided and made both prey to tho common enemy United they would be lnvinoible they uld have the power to take the Eastern car morants down a few pegs and put nn end to thievish taxation monopoly and rascally discrimination That the East knows this perfectly well nnd fears it is evident enough from the clamor raised in behalf of tbo force bill Incalls whose Instincts are all with tbe East Is at this moment waving the bloody shirt frantic ally in Kansas and by violent and arrant demogogy inflaming the sectional bitterness of the Jnyhawkers and for what purpose Plainly to destroy the morale and weaken the cohesiveness of tbe alliance organizations which threaten to knock tbe props from under tbe Republican machine in that state Elsewhere tbe same political lnoendlarlsm and refilanlsm is rampart and for a like purpose If according to the views of Georg ian tho Farmers Alliance can establish such a fellowship between tbe agricultural classes of tbe West and South and can bring about a unity of interests political as well as Industrial suoh as tbe natural order should exist between them they will have accomplished more of good for the masses of the country than all that his been done since tbe war They can well afford to set themselves to tbe accomplishment of that task alone and leave tbe settlement of tbe financial question and other matters to some one else or to some other time Reforms can not be bad In batches Suffering Dally Jo San Marcos Star Vindicator It seems that the Interests of Fort Worth nre suffering from inadequate hotel accommodations It is strange that the plucky Fort Worth would nllow anv tblug ot the kind to interfere with her growth and advancement Two Great Cities Wharton Spectator Dallas and Fort Worth are two great cities They have left no stone unturned In their efforts to develop the resources of Northern Texas and their labors are being composed of the railroads aud others who should build own nnd raanuge the depot which should cost between 8100- 000 uud 500000 The proper locution was uenr where the present depot stnuds only on Ihe west of the trucks so that carriages cars nnd wngons could have easy access to it without crossing the trucks The lracks should theu be taken up aud thrown cast of the depot A very fine nnd commodious building but one which would be necessary could be built for roads running into this depot could pay on a wheeluge basis a sufficient amount to pay the interest If the matter will be taken up uud urged by our chamber of commerce something can probably be accomplished in a short time A FINE CITY HALL There Is not a taxyayer iu Fort Worth who is uot in favor of substantial permanent improvements made by the city council The demand for fine eitv hnll Is imperative and general Such building as Fort Worth will ueed can not be built in few months and the steps looking to its erection should be taken now Tho city owns ample ground purchased for cily hall purposes on Jen nings avenue where the old high school building stands soon to be vacated Ihe hull to be built should be designed on liberal scale uot for the present but for years to como Nothing less than 250 000 should be speut on this structure It should be tbe finest public building In Texas It should have in it a grand auditorium council chamber oCloes for all oity officials and a complete library The citizens of Fort Worth hnve a right to expect that the broad gauged meu who legislate for them will have foresight enough to build just such a structure Mayor Smith favors such a build- lug and so do a number of the council Why delay If the council will do what is expected and help build up Fort Worth it will at its next meeting do what is neccessury to build this hall Now is tbe accepted time To day is worth a score of hundreds to morrows The building era is onus and Fort Worths aldermen should show that
