Qrosvenor resolution directing it to inquire into the cause of the delay in supplying to members copies of the Dily Record The report contains a letter from the Public Printer stating that the delay has only happened upon two occasions and in each case was caused by the failure of the clerks of the House to famish the copy until a late hour There Is also a letter from the Clerk of theHousestatlng that this fact was due to the immense number of pii a bills introduced through the petition box Assurance is given by both toese gentlemen that there will be no delay in future in the delivery of the Record Mr Hopkins of Illinois moved to recommit the report with instructions to the committee to extend Its inquiry to the delay in the printing of Dili and otherpublic documents Mr Springer of Illinois defended the Public Printer and asserted if there was rny delay In the printing of bills it was due entirely to the large number of measures introduced Mr Grosvenor of Ohio criticised the printing otlice for the tardiness with which tne printing required by Congress was furnishhd Mr Jgera of Arkansas regarded tiiis criticism as part and parcel of the arraignment of the Democratic party before it came into power before the election that the country was going to damnation if the Democrats were successful but they had wagged along throueh 8 couple of years without any serious complaints having been made The treabury had not been raided The soldiers had been taken care of the public debt was being paid off and the country seemed to be tfe but there was always somebody to complain of something If tne gentlemen debired investigate the acts of any public man fhey ougat to abk for an investigation in manly way Mr Cox ol New York thought the House and its committees were lsrgey responsible for the delay in printing and during the last dcal year the Public Printer had disposed of a large amount cf printing ordered by previous Congresses most of it important Mr McMillan cf Tennessee declared it was the the custom of the Pabllcrrinter to print bills in the regular order of thir introduction He thought Congress was to blame for the delay in printing office because it ordered the printing of quantities of Btnff which none but a crank would write and none but a fool would read Mr Grosvenorreferring to Mr Rogers remarks suggested that that gentleman did not ngree
