PAGE TWO THE AMARILLO DAIMT KEWS. TEXAS Marriage Rackets Bv DOROTHY DJX DEAR MISS DIX: I am a worn-1 an. 42. with one child, a girl of married life has never been! happy, as my husband crank and- teas unfaithful to me. But I stood 1 it because he supported by child and me.

although he spent the most thai' he made on himself and other women. Xow, however, he has work almost entirely and -are are in desperate straits, in. debt to all who trust us. My daughter is engaged to marry. a voung man who is very industrious and worthy, but he makes i barely enough to support her end could not possibly take care of me.i Dont you "think that she shows ai great- lack of affection and gratitude' lor me in insisting on marrying this poor bov when she might marry an older man.

who is in love with and who could provide comfortably lor me too? A MOTHER. ANSWER: It's bad enough for a girl to marry for a meal-ticket, but certainly the worst form of the matrimonial racket is that in which a mother sells her daughter in mar- rlage in order to provide for beri own physical comforts and well-being. In seems incredible that any -mother could be so callous and sel-j fish as to be willing to break her) daughter's heart by making her givej the fine young man she loves, and who loves her. and to wreck 1 her life by entering into a sordid, loveless marriage just for the sake of securing her own comfort. That she should urge this sacrifice the girl in the name of filial dutyj is a blasphemy against the com-j mandment to children to honor! their parents.

Dumas Population Is Now Doubled DUMAS. Aug. 10--Dumas midweek laid claim to being the fastest growing town in the r.ation. The 1940 census gave it 2,117.

If the ratio of school enrollment and! connections to that applied in 1940 still apply, Du-' mas now has nearly 5.000 people, according to the Moore County News. Of course, said the News, some folks will leave when current construction work is finished. But this will be offset in a measure at least by a steadily-increasing number of persons arriving to work in the new plants and industries. Most of the new construction is plants and industries having to do with munitions, high octane gasoline and other essentials for the war effort. War-born -demands, of course, have caused operations in the Moore County oil field surrounding Dumas to expand.
