editor of the Methodist Protestant. The performance of the Sussex Club in Bacon's Opera House next Thursday promises to be the best amateur entertainment ever presented to a Laurel audience. The costumes and make-ups come from Van Horn, and the addition of 6iecial scenery and electrical effects will far outreach any former effort ol the club, which has already earned an enviable reputation for the excellency of its productions. "Clover Farm" is the play which will bo rendered. Its similarity to "The Old Homestead" is striking.

A parade will be given on the day of the performance when the Farmer Band will make its appearance. The special music In St. Philip's was excellent. Much time had been spent on tho preparation of it, and the church would not hold the crowd. Tho Easter music at this place has been famous for a number of years.

Charles I. Elzey, of Wilmington, is the guest of -his parents in this town. The shirt and overall factory of Fooks Hastings is nearing completion. When finished It will give employment to about 130 girls. The cemetery property which J.

Dallas Marvil presented to the Junior Or der of American Mechanics, Is being cleaned and put Into shape. The order intends to build a fence around the tract and otherwise improve it. T. Jackson Waller, who was successfully operated on by Dr. Charles S.

Hearn, of Philadelphia, has regained his hearing, and returned to his home here. The season of herring and shad has opened, and local fishermen are mak ing big catches. The fish are bringing good prices in this market. Several linemen of the Diamond State Telephone Company have been here for the past two weeks' repairing the old wires and stringing several new ones. Hill, of Wilmington, is isiting relatives here. Mrs. William Phillips, while return- ipg to her homei about eight miles from here, was thrown from her carriage by her horse running away and received a broken arm. The wheels of tho carriage passed over her. Mns.

Lee Brad ley and two children were in the car riage but escaped injury. George Hitch is operating a broom manufacturing business at his home ear here. The weekly output is about fifty dozen. OF. A PERSONAL NATURE.

Sidney Kenney, of Philadelphia, a brother of former Senator Kenney, has been visiting his old home here; George N. Davis, of Georgetown, is visiting his parents here. By the breaking of a scaffold at Mar shall's paper mills, at Yorklyn, on Wednesday, Richard Smith had several ribs broken and was otherwise badly bruised and cut, and another man had a leg broken. Matthew Roser, of this place, took part in the shooting match at LcwiS' ville, on Wednesday, for a buggy and set of harness. Mr. Roser broko twen ty-seven out of thirty targets, and the winner broke thirty straight. Mr, Roser broke ninety strlght out of ninety-six a few days ago.

Methodist Protestants Meet The annual session of tho Maryland Annual Conference of the Methodist Protestant Church, which includes all the churches of that denomination in Maryland. District of Columbia, Dela ware, part of Pennsylvania, New Jer sey and Virginia, convened in Grace Church, at Centreville. today. "Dangers of- Paris," the play that has mado all England talk, will le presented at tho Opera House on Friday and Saturday afternoon and nights. It is from the pens of the well-known English authors, E.

Hill Mitchelson and Charles H. Longdon. The piece is now in its sixth year in Europe and is said to bo the most successful melodrama seen (here in years. Its American presentation i3 one that is perfect in every detail, lioing presented by a company above the average and staged with all special scenery painted from photographs taken in the in which the scenes are laid. The story is an" interesting one, there is a stroug comedy element.
