"Private THE ATLANTIC LEAGUE. ITS ANNUAL MEETING HELD IN PHILADELPHIA YESTERDAY. R. G. BARROWS ELECTED PRESIDENT WILMINGTON GETS FOURTH PLACE-MAY HAVE A TEAM NEXT YEAR.

The annual meeting of the Atlantic league was held at the Hotel Hanover. Philadelphia, yeitenlay afternoon. Tlieso delegates were present: Hartford. William It. Ramie: Newark, George E.

Ellis; Athletic. H. Niles and William Sharsig; Imcuster, 11. A. Hi'iiscl ami Frank Rlnn; Norfolk, A.

A. O'Ncil. W. H. Itroouie; Richmond.

W. It. Bradley; Wilmington. D. A.

Long; Paterson, C. I. Me-Kee. The amount of business that was transacted was h.udly proportionate to the time devoted to It. The most Important, of the routine, and at the same time the most, productive of comment, was the awarding of the championship.

This somewhat unexpectedly fell to tho Newark club, thereby shattering the fond delusions of Hartford and Paterson, each of which had already ordered a pennant iole, and as the latter two had played a post-championship season for the Soby cup, the respective managers were somewhat embarrassed and the confusion was not in tho least relieved when Manager Barnie announced that he would "lly a pennant anyhow." The confusion over the official rec ords of the teams was explained a8 being due to the playing of so many exhibition games and the very Incomplete returns of the official scores. The Board of Directors, after a two hours' struggle with the problem decided that the interests of harmony and humanity would best be subserved by the adoption of the record as presented by the president, and the report was adopted by the meeting, for the same reasons, possibly after a few- pointed and pathetic expressions indicative of fond hopes shattered. This official record shows that there were 3S5 victories during the season, and 383 defeats. There was no ex planation as to which club received the benefit of the two odd victories. The discussion assumed such a humor ous phase that it was speedily disposed of on motion of Manager Shar sig, whose team was dropped from fourth place to sixth in the shuffle.

The figures announced as official are: Won. Lost. P. C. Newark 77 59 .571 Paterson 76 59 .503 Hartford 71 65 .502 Wilmington 00 73 .431 Lancaster 50 00 .431 Athletic 61 71 E.

O. Barrows was the only pronounced candidate for tho office of president. Samuel H. Crane, who served in that capacity last season, was not a candidate for re-election, explaining that business engagements would interfere. Mr.

Barrows was elected unanimously. The question of playing "fanned" players was discussed in all its phases, and was finally compromised by an amendment to the constitution which forbids the playing of any man after August 15, unless his services are regularly contracted tor by the Atlantic League. The Board of Directors elected con sists of William Barnie, C. J. McKee and J.

W. Bradley. The constitution was changed so as to allow the president to make out the schedule. He will send copies to each club at least one week before the next meeting of the League, which will v. held some time in March.

The sea son was extended so that 140 games will be played, each club playing 70 games at home. The season will begin May 1, and continue five months. The permanent headquarters of the League will he in New York. These players were about the corridors of the hotel while tho meeting was in progress: Monte Cross Billy Nash, John Smith, John Strieker, August Moran, "Jack" Milllgan, "Ben" Ellis, Peter Newell, W. Holland, R.

Divlnney, "Jack" Hodson, George Smith, J. Dobbins, George Ulrich, Edward Amea, John Hofford, John Sprogel and Thomas Phelan. D. A. Long was asked whether h3 would play his team inWilmington or Reading this year, but ho stated that he had not yet decided.
