Author of Children's Books— Rites at Batesville For Mrs. Swain, 73 BATESVILLE — Funeral rites for Mrs. Miriam Mason Swain, 73. Batesville, a native of Goshen Goshen and author of 54 children's books, will be held at 11 a. m. Friday in St. Mark Lutheran Church here. Officiating will be the Rev. Allen Allen Crabbe, pastor of the church. Burial will be in Payne Cemetery Cemetery at Bloomington. Friends may call at the Meyers Meyers Funeral Home, Balesville. Mrs. Swain, a former schoolteacher, schoolteacher, died unexpectedly Tuesday Tuesday morning in the driveway of her home as she was preparing to get into her automobile. Born Jan. 23, 1900, she was the daughter of Benjamin Franklin and Laura Mason. Mrs. Swain also was a Cross and a volunteer worker at the Muscatatuck State School. She was a member of the Batesville' Batesville' Library Board and a former former trustee of Oesterlen Children's Children's Home,. Springfield, Ohio. She was a member of the Delta Delta Zeta Sorority, of which she was named Woman of the Year in 1966. Also, she was a member member of the Greensburg chapter of the Psi Iota Xi sorority; the International Society of Arts and Letters; the Delta Sigma Kappa Kappa sorority; and the Women in Communications (formerly Theta Theta Sigma Phi), professional society society for women in journalism. Surviving are: A daughter, Mrs. Allen (Kitsy) Beck, Silver Springs, Md.; four sisters, Mrs. Eugene C. (Nina) Pulliam, Phoenix, Ariz., Mrs. Kathleen magazine circulation writer and j Patev, San Francisco, Calif., fashion writer.
