The closing of Commencement was the annual concert by tbe vocal and instrumental classes of tbe Institute. But a sense Of sadness and gloom was upon tbe audience, as just an hour before the music began,' Captain Donald Wood of tbe steamer "Neuse" had fallen from the upper deck of his boat and striking his bead against the edge of the lower one had fallen overboard and been drowned. C'ap'ain Wood held a very high placed io the esteem of every one who ever became acquainted with him. Tbe large concourse which attended his funeral proved this. The Firemen and the "Kinston Rifles," of each ot which he was a member, turned out in force nd escorted bis remains to the cemetery.
