. Carson Irwen, Carson Irwen, pioneer farmer and rancher of this county, died in Wellington Monday morning, August 31, at 9 o'clock. He had been in ill health for many months. Mr. Irwen was 59 years of age, and had lived in the Needwood community 42 years. Funeral services were held at Needwood School Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock with Rev. J. P. Neal, pastor of the Baptist Church in Wellington, in charge. Friends and acquaintances who came to pay final tribute to his memory more than filled the building for the services. The pallbearers, men who had known him for most of their lives, were Jim Light, Frank Light, Everett Fain, Halver Hart, Fred Walker, and Dave Walker. Flower bearers were Betty Jo Fain, Rheba Rhea Fain, Imogene Light, Wynona Light, Betty Kate Taylor, Maurine Russell, and Jimmie Fay Light. Hymns included "Rock of Ag-es" and "Safe in the Anns of Jesus." Interment was in the Needwood Cemetery with the Ellis Funeral Home in charge. Samuel Carson Irwen was a native of Illinois, where he was born December 5, 1882, and at the time of his death he was 59 years, 8 months, and 26 days of age.' He was the son of Minnie Jane and Samuel Miller Irwen, both of whom were natives of Illinois. While still a boy, he came with his parents to the Indian Territory, and lived near what is now Carter, Oklahoma. In 1900 he came to Collingsworth County, and began work for the late T. T. Fain of the Needwood community, where he had continued to make his home. A few years later he j went into farming and stock raising for himself. For a number of years he was associated with the late George Boyd of Mangum, Okla,, in the ranching business. He was married to Miss, Venia (Continued on Page Eight)
