Chain Store Shuts Down Counters To Stymie Sit-ins NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Officials Officials of F. W. Woolworth today shut down service at its lunc! counter two hours after seven students students staged Ihe first organized sit-in demonstration in New Or leans. The students -- two of them white -- were refused service then remained at the counter served [or white patrons. There were no incidents. A squad of policemen, headec by Supt. Joseph GEarusso, was on hand to preserve order but made no efforts to unset the demonstra tors. The group identified themselves as members of the Congress 01 Racial Equality (CORE).
