1903 Socialist Party of Oregon First District Congressional Nominating Convention

News account of the 1903 Socialist Party convention to put forward a nominee for the special election to fill the Congressional seat left vacant by the death of Republican Representative Thomas H. Tongue. The convention, held at Hurst Hall in Salem, unanimously named John W. Ingle (note spelling) of Corvallis, "a prominent and well-to-do farmer"as its candidate. A new election platform was approved and a resolution passed supporting the Portland newspaper "The Liberator," edited by T.E. Latimer.
