COUNTRY GOD AMD TRUTH Firemen Gladly Heed These Sirens' Calls BETTY MURIEL COX. center, 17-year-old Tabor City beauty was named top contender in the beauty contest staged by and ·for N. C. firemen here last night.- She was crowned by Stale Cutlar Moore, and she and the two runners-up were presented silver platters. In second place in the contest was one of Robeson county's contenders, Retha Locklear, left, also 17, representing the Pembroke Fire Department. Chosen for third honors was Jackie Byrd,-right 20, of Windsor. Judges for the contest were Charles Craven, Raleigh newspaperman, Eldred Thompson bureau chief in Florence for a Charleston, S.
