NEW HIGHWAY WILL CUT THE SAN ANTONIO TO HOUSTON ROUTE Austin, Tex., Jan. 21.—Twenty miles \vill be cut from the highway travel route between Houston and San Antonio with the completion of a construction project in Gonzales county. This project, the last gap in the new Houston-San Antonio route, was authorized today by the state highway The shorter route would be by way of Waelder to Luling, to Seguin, and into San Antonio over Highway No. 3-A. The principal route to travel at present goes by way of Vaelder to Gcnzales. thence to Seguin and on to San Antonio. The latter road is Highway No. 3. known as the Old Spanish Trail. The highway commission today authorized the improvement of Highway No. 3-A from Waelder to the Caldwell county line, a distance of 14 miles thru Gonzales county. The remainder of the "cut-off" is under contract. The commission authorized tho state highway engineer to ask lor bids on the project as soon as a right of way had been secured by the county and tho location cleared.
