NEW'.YOR K, September 8. On Tucfday Afternoon laft at Five o'Clock, arrived arrived here his Majefty's Ship the Sphynx, of 20 Guns, Capt. James Gambier, in Nine Weeks from Portfmouth, with whom came his Excellency Sir CHARLES HARDY, Knight, Captain General and Governor in Chief of this Province ; and his Family, - as alfo his Excellency's Sifter, and her Huband Mr. Barons. . - - ' When the Sphynx Man of War left Portfmouth, there lay at Spithead between 2? and 30 Sail of capital Ships, compleatly mann'd, and ready to put to Sea on the firft Notice, and for the quicker Difbatch of Bufinefs, Admiral Anfon brought down to Portfmouth, a fufficient Number of the Members Members of the Board of Admiralty, . to form a Board at that Place. The Sphynx has brought Twenty, Thoufand Pounds for the Ufe of the Forces in America.
