The classroom is full of serious students of both genders; nobody giggles, nobody interrupts, everybody asks an intelligent question. In a world this perfect, nobody would ever get AIDS in the first place.

There are many other scenes the snub from the friend in the grocery store, Scott's denial and acceptance, the scene where the once-happy family unites in despair. Every scene is at least mildly chilling. The last scene is actually powerful. Everybody, except annoying Cath, is adequate. Knight, round and down-to-earth, is more than adequate; she is the best thing that ever happened to this disease movie.

She has a future playing warm, caring doctors in other disease movies. Two stars, three if you cry in pet stores. Pageant hostess among us: Wracked and torn by "Enemy," you will no doubt be looking forward to watching Stepfanie Kramer of "Hunter" co-host the "Miss Teen USA" pageant. The bad news: Kramer has an inner-ear infection that forced her to bow out. The good news: Kramer was quickly replaced by Tracy Scoggins of "The Colbys." You'll never know the difference.

tonight 9 p.m. "Miss Teen USA" pageant, they grabbed it. "We saw an opportunity to reach a much larger audience on a night with special appeal to young people," the president of CBS Entertainment said in a press release. Another theory: A disease movie this depressing will set you up perfectly for the cheery imbecility of a beauty pageant. "Enemy" is responsible enough, which is to say that it will neither augment the panic of aware viewers, nor allay their fears.

It pushes the usual buttons, but sparingly. The dialogue is usually dumb, but there's not too much of it. It's not insulting, just formulaic and moralistic. "Enemy" begins in that edenic universe where all the disease-movies start, and where all happy nuclear-age families are alike. Here is Dad, giving 16-year-old Scott a driving lesson as Scott describes his happy day "Coach thinks we've got enough juice to make it to the regionals." i Meanwhile, back home in the sparkling kitchen, bratty younger sister Cathy "helps" warm, understanding Mom make dinner.

Naturally, everybody calls Cathy "Cath." Then the bad news: Scott (Danny Nucci) was infected with the AIDS virus three years ago, during emergency treatment after a bike wreck. (Starts 10.15) (1936) U.S. soaps get hot overseas From Electronic Media After years of dormancy, U.S. soap operas are becoming a hot ticket on the international TV distribution scene. Until recently, foreign sales of U.S. soaps were largely confined to Canada, Italy and Australia.

But now Germany, Spain, France, Britain and a few Scandinavian countries are adding to the mix. James McNamera of New World Television, which distributes "Santa Barbara," says his company is getting $15,000 to $20,000 per half-hour for soaps in France. Dubbing and other costs, however, can eat up 50 percent of the revenue for New World, sources say. As the need for programming expands in Europe, some experts predict a demand for daytime and late-night programming as well. Likely to keep the demand high is the limited quantity of soaps on U.S.

networks. The big three networks currently air 11. McNamera says newer soaps are more attractive to foreign buyers because they can start with episode one, when characters and story lines are being developed.
