Rated sex, lies, and videotape." Star Trek The Final Frontier 5 A good sci-fi fable typical of the old TV series, the story of a renegade Vulcan insisting that Thanks to psychiatry, I'm now able to openly express my intense hatred of chain Casualties Of War 9 Brian DePalma brings the Vietnam War back with the force of a nightmare, spelling out its moral dimensions in a story of GIs brought to justice for raping and killing a Vietnamese woman. Rated rape, murder, gory battlefield deaths. h.

tHHinirara if Millennium 3 Kris Kristofferson investigates a plane crash and futuristic Cheryl Ladd in this dopey time-travel movie. It might have made a good half-hour "Twilight Zone," but at almost two hours, it crashes and burns before takeoff. Rated PG-13; profanity. (Reviewed by Dembs.) The Pacxace 6 This political mystery about a' plot to sabotage a U.S.-Soviet agreement on nuclear disarmament is as intriguing as it is boring. The intricate plot moves slowly but keeps you wondering about who's doing what and why.

Gene Hackman, Joanna Cas-sidy and Tommy Lee Jones deserve applause for their work in the lead roles. Rated violence. (Reviewed by Givhan.) Parenthood 8 Steve Martin, Dianne Wiest and almost two dozen others represent five generations in an extended family story that's as funny, silly, messy and ultimately satisfying as your average extended family. Rated PG-13; profanity, sexual situations. Peter Pan 7 The 1953 Walt Disney full-length animated cartoon is back to delight another generation of children, who will find it action-packed and fun to watch.

There are clever visual touches, a couple of good songs Can Fly," "The Second Star to Cheetah 6 Two American teens and their Kenyan friend trek through wild country in search of their kidnapped cheetah buddy. The plot is predictable, but the setting is exotic (unless you happen to be from Kenya) and heavy on the wildlife. The story may be too complicated for small children, but they can just look at the animals. Rated nothing objectionable. (Reviewed by Martin F.

Kohn.) everyone face pain in order to see a vision of God at the center of the universe, is hampered by the script's digressions and forced humor. Going boldly where no one but Leonard Ni-moy has gone before, director William Shatner should give the problems of ensemble acting and dramatic momentum back to the guy with the pointy ears. Rated PG; mild profanity, sci-fi violence. Turner And Hooch 5 Yuppie police investigator Tom Hanks teams with a plug-ugly, slobbering, barfly mastiff to bust 3 Movies aw raterf 1-70 (subpar to 'tibove average). Unless otherwise noted, Huffhines did the reviews.

For Jipies, see the movie guide on this page. TODAY "buck Rain 5 Overloading this routine chase bust story about stereotyped Manhattan and Osaka cops Michael Douglas and Ken Takakura with director Ridley Scott's visual overkill is line dropping an atomic fireball on a lint stjeck. Rated knifings, throat slit-tings, finger amputations. comic Book Confidential 7 See this not for its so-so experiments with cut-out animation and panel-to-panel comic book narration, but for its interviews with 22 cjtting-edge graphics artists light or) Mickey Mouse, heavy on R. Crumb, Lynda Barry, Frank Miller and Art Spiegelman's "Maus." Unrated; mayhem of the illustrated kind.

Stars Lou Ferrigno, Reb Brown and Michael Dane. Rated no advance screening. criminals. An Odd Couple with fleas. It's better than "K-9," but not much.

Rated PG; profanity, gross dog drool. Uncle Buck 6 Not a great movie, but a likable one. John Candy plays feelings instead of just buffoonery as the crass but caring uncle of suburban Chicago kids who can use his loving wrecker ways. Rated PG; profanity, mildly threatening come-on. The movie tries to open up Pauline Collins' Tony-winning one-woman show about the minuses Love Is A Dog From Hell 9 If LA's skid row poet Charles Bukowski is 50 percent W.C.

Fields and 50 percent Keats, this is the first of three recent films based on Bukowski's stories to explore the part that's Keats. This Belgian film's Bukowski reacts to sex, acne' and corpses in a surprising and touching blend of perversity and romanticism that's not for everyone. Unrated; nudity, simulated sex, necrophilia. At the Tele-Arts; call 963-8690 anytime. KlCKBOXER 5 Jean Claude Van Damme is slowly becoming the, new king of Chop-Socky.

To say that "Kick-" boxer" is his best film is faint praise, but it does have enough humor and action in it to please his ardent fans. Rated explicit profanity, boxinf gloves dipped in shards of glass. (Reviewed by Mike Dembs, Free Press special writer.) the Right and having a young man (Bobby Driscoll) provide Peter's voice seems downright revolutionary and very right. Rated G. Nothing objectionable.

Wasn't this a "Streets of San Francisco" episode 20 years ago? Rated explicit profanity, excessive violence and nudity. (Reviewed by Dembs.) of marriage, motherhood and Liverpool versus the pluses of self-discovery ai)d Greece. But its actualized characters interfere with what's best in Willy Russell's less-than-surprising play: the rlivthms of Collins' monologue.

Worth Cookie 6 This weakest link in a lively chain of Mafia comedies has strong performances by Brenda Vac-caro and Dianne Wiest as mobster Peter Falk's wife and mistress. But it's undermined by Emily Lloyd's disconnected lead as Falk's daughter; Susan Seidelman's digressive, set-obsessed direction; and Nora Ephron's and Alice Arlen's broad, stereotyped script. Rated profanity, sexual situations. Distant Voices, Still Lives 4fc In the greatest achievement I II in film art you'll see this JL year, director Terence Da-vies turns his Liverpool childhood into a poem about memory, a stained glass window constantly shattered by unfor-gotten rage, constantly rebuilt with unforgotten love. It's not for everyone, but if it's for you, you'll think it's one of the best movies of the year.

Unrated; violence. At the Towne. Do The Right Thing 9 Spike Lee's Bedford-Stuyvesant blockful of vivid African-American characters explodes in a complicated, incendiary double ending pitting the philosophy of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. against the philosophy of Malcolm X.

Rated explicit profanity, nudity, arson, violence. (Reviewed by Huffhines and Robin D. Givhan.) VOICES OF SARAFINA! 9 Director Nigel Noble's film about the young South Africans in the cast of the New York hit musical "Sarafinat" is one of the rare documentaries of a stage production more powerful than the production itself. Ends with Miriam Makeba's backstage visit, the most moving 20 minutes of film you'll see this year. Unrated; nothing objectionable.

Worst: the Spielberg rip-off ending. Rttted PG-13; profanity, violence. When Harry Met 6 Attempting a fresh, honest, com- ic look at relationships in the '80s, writer-director Rob Rei- I ner's personal script meets Billy Crystal's impersonal salmon-in-aspic Harry for a movie that can't make it on Meg Ryan's mildly appealing Sally. Raul Julia stars as Romero. Rated PG-13; at the Maple m.

(Reviewed by Russell Smith, Dallas Morning News.) Sea Of Love 6 When Al Pacino's cop tracks a suspected female serial killer by placing a personals ad, he gets more than he bargains for when Ellen Barkin answers. So does the movie, which never sees that Barkin's upfront sexiness is much more interesting than Pacino's rambling self-consciousness which is "unnecessary sludge that slows down the suspense.
