HE NAMES of Chaney LSJ i i and vvastiDurn ana xvem and Lockwood and Marion and Walthall, to mention a few, will not be forgot ten if the children of these once-tamous stars are as talented and as fortunate as their sires. More than a score of Hollywood youngsters are growing up, following in the footsteps of fathers or mothers whose names and faces were familiar to the movie audiences a few years ago. There are others, of course, whose parents overshadow them. Eogers's daughter Mary, for example, played in one picture as Mary Howard and then decided to seek stage experience. Frances Rich, daughter of the silent film star 'irene Rich, has had a few minor movie parts.

Also in this category, perhaps, 13 Douglas Fairbanks who became a star while his father still held the same position. Kichard Bennett is still an important name on the stage and the screen, but so also are those of his two daughters, Joan and Constance. Phillips Holmes, son of Taylor, matinee and screen idol of a decade ago, is another who had the advantage of a "name" to start his career. Noah Beery, eon of the "singing heavy," is on the way toward becoming a serial star in his own right. Dolores and Helene Costello, too, were "movie names," like their father, Maurice, until they retired to marry, rt In every casting office in Hollywood are listed again such names as Carlyle Blackwell, Neal Hart, Bryant Washburn, Wallace Reid, Francis X.

Bushman, Claude Gil-lingwater, Harold Lockwood, Robert Mantell, Patricia Walthall, Ruth Marion and Georgette Bancroft. "Junior" follows most of these. The youngsters Blackwell, Hart, "Washburn, Reid and Erich Von Stroheim Frank Tinney Jr. and Fred Kohler Jr. all had parts In De Mille's "The Day and Age." Individually they play minor roles in other pictures, too.

Miss Walthall, now 17, made her movie debut with her father, Henry in "Judge Priest." Ruth Marion, daughter of George Marlon, veteran character player, appears regularly In films, usually in comedy charac terizations. George Bancroft's daughter, Georgette, also 17, played her first part with her father in "Elmer and Elsie" recently. All three girls hope to remain in pic tures. Reginald Denny's Barbara, 16, is undecided whether she wants a movie career. Her father intro duced her to the cameras in "One More River." Acting has no ap peal for Patricia Ziegf eld, daugh ter of the late impresario ana Billie Burke.

But she likes the the ater and the movies, and now has her first job, an assistant in pre paring a picture based on her fathers life. K.IKL CAKKOIX'8 BIO SHOW MURDER thb VANITIES r.f.'DALUS MARION DA COOPER Ol'KHATOR 13 ing i murk or Broadway treading tne boards on which their fathers and mothers achieved fame). By Max Hill. New York, August 4 (AP). fllTH a rich heritage of family theatrical tradi tion, a new generation of actors has come to Broad way to seek fame on Its own behind the Broadway footlights where fathers and mothers won acclaim.

Two generations of actors have stemmed from the debonair John Drew first the Barrymores, now tho Colts and Pat Rooney II. and Pat Rooney III. have followed in ths stage footsteps of Pat, the first. Fred Stone's three children have turned to the theater, as have two of George M. Cohan's children, and his son, George now in school, has voiced theatrical aspirations also.

There is no ready road to fame on the stage, but the children of famous Thespians for the most part have been 6pared the long years of obscurity which, almost without exception, their parents endured. Fred Stone as a boy danced upon the downtown sidewalks in Denver for pennies pitched to him. He danced one day in front of the cigar store owned by Burt Davis, who got him his first professional engagement Even after that there were long years of hard work, most of the time with his famous partner, Montgomery, before Ihey saw their names in lights. But Dorothy, his daughter, won that distinction after her first night on the professional stage. It was in "3tepplng Stones" with her father.

Out front the electric lights said "Fred Stone in Stepping Charles Dillingham, the producer, watched the first act. was delighted with her accurate mimicry of her father's eccentric dancing. And he ordered the sign changed to include her name. Dorothy now is in "As Thousands Cheer," having replaced Marilyn Miller. One sister, Paula, is a dancer, too, while the third, Carol, is on the dramatic stage.

Ethel Barrymore, the sister of John and Lionel, is playing with her son, John Colt, a oarK-com-plexioned, sturdy youth, and her daughter. Ethel Colt, in the Wash ington Theater at Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. Helen Cohan, who has naa a num ber of roles on Broadway, has now turned to Hollywood and the movies. Her sister, Georgette, appeared with her father in his play, "Gambling." While Will Rogers's daughter, Mary, described by her coworkers as hard working and "sensible like her father," has never appeared on Broadway, she is playing stock this summer at Lakewood, Maine. She had the feminine lead in "Pursuit of Happiness." Another player in the cast there Is Owen Davis son of the dramatist, whose first role in New York was in "The Barker." He has appeared mostly in his father's plays.

At White Plains, N. Ernest Truex is appearing with his two sons, one of whom, Ernest has had roles in New York. Adrlenne Matzenauer, daughter of the opera singer of the same name, made her stage debut in Boston this summer with "Life Begins at 8:40." Scheduled for New York later. Blanche Bates, one time "Girl of the Golden West," who in private life is Mrs. George Creel, of San Francisco, has sent to the Btage her daughter, Frances Creel, who made her debut in "Jezebel' last season with Miriam Hopkins.

At the same time the daughter was in "Jezebel," Mrs. Creel was playing with Katharine Hepburn in the ill-fated play, "The Lake." Still another second generation in the theater is Guy Standing Jr. and his sister, Katherine Standing, children of Blanche Burton Standing, former wife of Sir Guy Standing, the English actor, and Sir Guy. Mrs. Standing, an actress, died recently.

Watertown, N. August 4 (AP) Breaking a retirement of 12 years, May Irwin, 72 years old, "Queen of Laughter" on the American stage in earlier years, will return to the theater here for a three-night stand, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The woman to whom President Woodrow Wilson Jestingly offered "the portfolio of secretary of laughter," who "discovered" Charles K. Harris and introduced his "Aftr the Ball," will appear in one of her greatest successes, "Mrs. Peckham's Carouse." The occasion is the moving of the summer civic theater from Clayton to Watertown.

Miss Irwin said "I'm doing it for Kent McKinley and his players. I have been deeply Interested in their efforts to give this section a good summer theater and have been since the playhouse opened a year ago." May Irwin in public eye Mrs. back to London to build a new life together. In preparing the novel for the screen Jesse L. Lasky brought in a strong cast of players to support Baxter.

Marjorie Rambeau has the picturesque role of the woman who runs a hotel in the islands. Zita Johann plays the nurse, in love with Baxter, who figures dramatic ally in his romance with Madge Evans. One of the interesting characters in the picture is Roger Imhof, portraying the retired prize fighter who joins Miss Rambeau in maintaining the comic relief of the drama. H. B.

Warner is the staunch friend of Baxter, whose faith helps him through his darkest hours. Others in the cast are Barry Morton, Juliette Compton, Gilbert Every, John Rogers, Gerald Rogers, Desmond Roberts and Carrie Dau mery. Irving Cummings directed the picture, from the screen play, pre pared by Ernest Pascal. MM Ann Lehr, of the stage, has seen her daughter, Ann Dvorak, become a picture personality, and so has vaudeville's Ed Blondell seen his daughter, Joan, become a star. Others who have their father's names and inclinations include Tryone Power Carter De Haven Jr.

and William Fayer-sham Jr. Helen Cohan, daughter of George of the stage, likes the movies. She was elected a Wampas Baby Star this year, but illness forced her to withdraw. There are, literally, dozens of other Hollywood babies but many of them are too young to be inter ested in anything more serious than eating and playing and sleep ing. Time, however, may bring to the screen names such as Bing Crosby Stuart Erwin Joe E.

Brown Jr. or John Barrymore Jr. Mode Changes Continued From Preceding Page. those who are trying to make good screen women of us." If 1935 sees a reversal to the mid- Victorian style with long hair, it will be because our most mportant stars are dressing that way. Hollywood dictates the fashions of the world, and if Hollywood says no more frivolous gay costumes than that means women all over the world will change their mode of dressing.

Jack Conway has not given up the idea of making 'Repeal," even though Jean Harlow could not see it as a starring vehicle for herself. He will put Gladys George into the Harlow role and Preston Foster into the male lead with Leo Carrillo as the featured player. Gladys George comes here from New York and she is described as a young Marjorie Rambeau with that some thing which is bound to make her a valuable addition to the screen. RESORTS Meadowbrook Park Additional arc lights have been installed at Meadowbrook Amusement Park, to accommodate the night bathers. More ponies are on hand for the children, also.

The twelve-acre grove is attracting picnicking parties. Chester Park The recent change in weather hasn't affected attendance at Chester Park's swimming pool. Comedy and fancy diving by Bill Borgman, Earl Wehrman and Alex Miller are part of today's program. The Chester roller rink continues in operation. Only her death affords him full freedom from the strange spell and the real enjoyment of life. The dramatic action in Human Bondage" passes against the colorful backgrounds of picturesque towns in France and England.

Among the varied interesting settings are students' quarters, medical study rooms, typical London gardens and the Parisian art sector. "Of Human Bondage" features a brilliant cast to support the histrionic qualities of Leslie Howard. In prominent roles are Bette Davie, Frances Dee and Kay Johnson. Parts of lesser importance are undertaken by Reginald Denny, Reginald Owen, Desmond Roberts; Alan Hale and Reginald Sheffield. John Cromwell directed from Lester Cohen's adaptation of Mr.

Somerset Maugham's story.

"Of Human Bondage," now showing at the Albee Theater, depicts the drama of a physically handicapped youth whose disability earns him romantic tragedy. Crippled, sensitive, cultured, the hero of Maugham's novel, solicitous for love and understanding, thrusts himself impetuously on his first romantic adventure. He becomes infatuated with a tawdry girl. For escape he turns to a compassionate, intellectual woman, but fails to reciprocate her love. Then a poor, but well-bred woman offers him complete happiness.
