rate than last year in spite of the six cent re duction in the county rate The increase has been explained by Improvemetns and additions in the high school grammar school fire and lighting districts and in part of the valley by a change in the tax basis for pest con trol According to the figures given lhe high school rate has been increased 67 cents to meet a smaller carry ox er fund from last year The grammar school rate is increased 21 cents probably for Ibis year only it was ex plained Io meet the cost of the addition to Aliso school which is being paid for from taxes and the reserve fund without a bond issue Increase of five cents in the fire district lax is the result of purchase of a new engine and other equipment necessary to bring the department up to standard service requirements during the past year Installa tion of new street lights in the Vallecito district and other main intersections in the townsite ac count for the increase of ii cents in the lighting district rates Taxes for support of the post control district are now assessed by acreage holdings instead of the usual rate of valuation fol lowing action of the last session of legislature it was
