Two County Girls Will Seek Conservation Title ANNE PENTON LINDA HOEPPNER Linda Hoeppner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Burdette Hoeppner, Rural Route 1, Lakota, and Anne Penton, daughter of Mrs. Marie Penton, rural Algona, have been selected to represent the Kossuth County Soil Conservation District in the Region 2 Queen of Conservation Contest to be held at the Labor Day Celebration, Graettinger, Sept. 6. The winner of each regional contest will receive a 17- jewel wrist watch and the state winner will receive a $250 cash prize. The state winner will serve as official hostess -at the Iowa Soil Conservation District Field Day and State Contour Plowing Match at Corning Sept. 9 and 10. (60-61) The Queen of Conservation Contest is sponsored by the 100 Iowa Soil Conservation Districts and the Farmers Grain Dealers Association of Iowa. Linda is 5" 2" tall and has brown hair and brown eyes. She will be a senior at Lakota high school this fall and after grad- uation plans to attend Buena Vista College as a pre-medical student. Her father, Burdette Hoeppner, farms a 320 acre farm, employing rotation cropping, grass waterways and strip cropping as conservation measures. In high school she has been active in vocal and instrumental music, debate, track and basketball. She is a member of the National Honor Society and Future Teachers of America. Miss Hoeppner is active in 4-H and is president of the Kossuth County chapter. She is also active in United Presby- Algona (la.) Upper Des Moinei Tuesday, August 17, 1965 terian Youth Fellowship. Anne Penton is 5' 1/2" tall and has blue eyes and light brown hair. She will be a junior this fall at Garrigan high school and after graduation plans to enter college with the goal of becoming a pre-school teacher. She has two younger sisters and a younger brother. Anne enjoys most the animals on a farm Including the cows, pigs, her horse and three dogs. In high school she has been active hi vocal and instrumental music and plans to join pep club this coming year. She is also active in 4-H as a photographer and club health chairman and lias won several blue rlblwns for her work. Among Anne's special Interests is dancing, including ballet, hula and modern dance - the latter which she enjoys most. The newspaper is the end product of many crafts, professions and talents.
