And he's still knocking his head against the Hollywood career wall, going to auditions and trying to score a bigger slice of the show business pie. But steady work doing radio commercials and animation voice-overs definitely has its merits. "I particularly like it because the tall blond guy doesn't always get the part," he said. The game? Teams of brothers and sisters compete by answering questions about their siblings' habits, hobbies and friends. Sort of a junior "New-lywed Game" without the sleaze and tease. And Larry, excuse me, Laurie Faso? A great human being in his own right, I can assure you. Actually, he was named Laurie from birth. "But I chickened out when I got to Denison," he said, referring to fears of cruel peer barbs about having a slightly effete handle.

With a name like Laurie, you learn to be fast with the imagination and the witty repartee. Enter Laurie Faso, zany child and class clown. Acting and show biz gigs? Here's a guy who did six years in "Godspell" and even got to ride on the "Godspell" float in the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade. In the rain, of course. He was also in a Joe Papp Shake-speare-in-the-Park production of "Comedy of Errors." Fellow cast members included Ted Danson, Danny De-vito, Michael Tucker and Blair Brown Days and Nights of Molly Somehow, they forgot to sprinkle the Stardust on my good friend.

Interesting thing about actors. Many are hardworking and dedicated, most never become stars. Fortunately, in addition to the hardworking and dedicated part, Laurie Faso is also a realist with a well-developed sense of humor. Students of highly praised, little-watched children's shows may remember him from the late 1970s syndicated series "Mario and the Magic Movie Machine." He was Mario.
