Ghannam I Free Press Staff Writer -Crouched behind the counter of his East Detroit party store, Samuel Youk- hajma fired at least two shots at the lone gunman who demanded cash. Youkhanna missed, but the gunman shot him in the head with a 12-gauge shotgun, killing him. The robber fled on foot with cash in a paper bag thrown to him by a store employee after the shooting. The employee was not harmed, East Detroit Police Sgt. John Clements said Tuesday.

The shooting happened at 9 p.m. Monday at Joseph's Keg and Wine in the 16700 block of Nine Mile Road. A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest and Charges against anyone involved in Youkhanna's death. The money was donated by Crimestoppers a nonprofit organization that offers rewards for tips in criminal cases. Tipsters can emairi anonymous.

Youkhanna, 38, bought the store about three years ago, friends said. Customers said he often would give hem a break when they didn't have enough money for pop or cigarettes. "He was well-liked by everyone in the neighborhood and by other businessmen," said Clements, who knew youkhanna. '-Youkhanna kept a handgun behind the counter but had not installed a bulletproof shield. jffis brother, Sami Youkhanna, said the storekeeper bought the gun after he was robbed twice.

David Bruce Siebers, a paroled robber and rapist, was charged with trying unsuccessfully to lure the girl into his car in 1990.
