The stores in LuVerne will again be open on Saturday evening in place of Friday. - o - Mr. and Mrs. Earl Neal, Lu- Verne, accompanied by their son- in-law, Genard Towne of Manson left Friday for the Bateman family reunion, family of Mrs. Neal, held at the Lake of the Woods, between Champaign and Bloomington, m. Mr. Neal's relatives will be visited also. They will return home July 31. A pot-luck picnic was enjoyed in the LuVerne town park recently by the members of the Good Will Club. Eleven members attended and one guest, Mrs. Edwin Hanselman. Miss Luella Blumer, president, presided. She took charge of a memorial to a former member, Mrs. Paul (Helen) Blumer. She read poems, "Trees" by Joyce Kilmer; "The Day is Done" by Henry Wadw- worth Longfellow and "L'Envoi by Rudyard Kipling. The entertainment of the afternoon was in charge of Mrs. Jessie Stripling. Mrs. Mary Williams visited in Otho with her granddaughter, Marilyn, the Albert Hippan family. Mrs. Ella Nelson and Miss Mabel Homann of Ringsted visited recently with their friend, Mrs. Alma Madden. Mr. and Mrs. John McDowell and children of Houston, Texas, have been visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kruse and brother, Mr. and Mrs. Donald The Rev. and Mrs. Alvin Kail- man and family of Collinsville, 01., have concluded a week's visit with his two sisters, the Clem Striplings and Harold Nielsens and returned to their home. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Baumgartner attended a Zimmerman family reunion in New Glarus, Wise., July 11. Enroute home they will visit their daughter, Thelma, the Durwood Burtis family in Augusta, Wise. A bridal shower Sunday in the Dennis Armstrong home honored her sister, Kathy Gilligan, with 30 attending. Miss Gilligan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Gilligan of LuVerne, will be married to David Roberts, son of Mrs. Frances Roberts and the late Mr. Roberts of Mason City at 10:30 a. m. Notie* NOTICE OF HEARING AND LETTING NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING ON PROPOSED PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS, AND PROPOSED FORM OF CONTRACT FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF IMPROVEMENTS AND EXTENSIONS TO THE MUNICIPAL WATERWORKS SYSTEM FOR THE CITY OF ALGONA, IOWA, AND THE TAKING OF BIDS FOR SUCH CONSTRUCTION. Notice is hereby given that the board of trustees of the Al- Mr. and Mrs. Donald E. Cole of Whlttemore announce the engagement of their daughter, Judith Ann, above, to Richard Harmon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Harmon of Algona,Iowa. A fall wedding is planned. gona Municipal Utilities of the City of Algona, Kossuth County, Iowa, will meet at the City Hall in Algona, Iowa, on the 30th day of August, 1965, at 8:00 P. M. Central Daylight Saving Time, at which time and place a hearing will be held upon the adoption of proposed plans and specifications and proposed form of contract, for the construction of improvements and extensions to the municipal waterworks of said city. At said meeting the said board of trustees will also receive and act upon proposals to enter into a contract or contracts for the construction of said Improvements and extensions. Said proposed improvements and extensions consist In general of the following: Furnish all supervision, labor, tools, materials, equipment and skill needed to construct and complete additions to the existing system of water mains and consisting of the following approximate quantities: 20 Lin. Ft. 4-lnch water mains 250 Lin. Ft. 6-inch water mains 20 Lin. ft. 8-inch water mains 20 Lin. Ft. 10-inch water mains 7,250 Lin. Ft. 12-inch water mains 14,000 Ibs. Special Castings 32 Gate Valves 11 Fire Hydrants 120 Lin. Ft. 20-Inch O. D. Steel Outer Casing All the work and equipment is to be in accordance with the plans and specifications and proposed form of contract now on file with the Secretary of the Board of Trustees In said City of Algona, Iowa, which by this reference is made a part hereof as though fully set out and Incorporated herein. At the said time and place said Board will also consider bids for the furnishing of water for the use of said City and it is estimated that the needs of the City will require approximately 200,000,000 gallons per year. All proposals and bids in connection herewith shall be submitted to the Secretary of the Board of said City on or before the time herein set for said hearing. All proposals shall be made on official bidding blanks furnished by the City and any alterations in the official form of proposal will entitle the Board, at Its option, to reject the proposal involved from consideration. Each proposal shall be sealed and plainly identified. Each proposal .shall be accompanied In a separate envelope by a certified pheck }n an amount equal to ten per cent (,iO%) of the total amount of ttmbid, drawn on and certified to by a bank in Iowa, payable to the Board of Trustees, Algona Municipal Utilities, as security that If awarded the contract by resolution of the Board, the oidder will enter Into a contract at the prices bid and will furnish the required corporate surety oond. This certified check may x cashed and the proceeds retained by the Board as agreed liquidated damages if the bidder falls to execute a contract or file an acceptable bond for the faithful performance thereof within fourteen (14) days after the acceptance of Ms proposal by resolution of the Board. No bidder may withdraw a proposal for a period of fifteen (15) days after the date set for opening bids. At said hearing the board will consider the plans and specifications and proposed form of contract for the project, the same now being on file In the office of the Secretary, reference to which is made for a more detailed and complete description of the proposed Improvements and extensions, and at said time and place the said Board will also receive and consider any objections to said plans, specifications and form of contract made by any Interested party. Payment for said Improvements and extensions will be made 'pursuant to Section 397.9 to 397.19, Code of Iowa, 1962, in cash from cash, on hand accumulated from past net earnings of the said Municipal Waterworks. Neither the Board of Trustees nor the City of Algona, Iowa, shall incur any general obligation for said Improvements and extensions and the contract or contracts for the construction of said Improvements and extensions shall not constitute a general obligation of the City or be payable In any manner by taxation. Payment to the contractor will 'be on the basis of monthly estimates equivalent to ninety per cent (90%) of the contract value of the work completed and/or materials of a permanent nature delivered at the site of the work, during the preceding calendar month. Estimates will be prepared on the first day of each month by the Contractor, and submitted to the Engineer for approval, who will certify to the Board for payment each approved estimate on or before the tenth (10th) day of the month in question. Such monthly payments shall in no way be construed as an act of acceptance for any part of the work partially or totally completed. Final payment of the remaining ten per cent (10%) will be made thirty-one (31) days after completion of all work and acceptance Algona (la.) No such partial or final payments will be due until the contractor has certified to the Board that the materials, labor, and service involved in each estimate have been paid for in accordance with the requirements stated In the specifications. The successful bidder will be required to furnish a bond In an amount equal to one hundred per cent (100%) of the contract price, said bond to be Issued by a responsible surety, and approved by the Board and shall guarantee the faithful performance of the contract and the terms and conditions therein contained and shall guarantee prompt payment for all materials and labor, and protect and save harmless the City from claims and damages of any kind caused by the operations of the Contractor, and shall also guarantee the work against faulty workmanship and materials for a period of two '.2) years from and after Its completion, and acceptance by the Board. The work under the proposed contract shall be started by September 15, 1965, and all work shall be completed on or before December 1, 1965, subject to any extensions of time which may be granted by the Board. The Board reserves the right to waive Informalities and to reject any or all bids and to enter Into such contract or contracts as it shall deem to be for its best Interest. These improvements and extensions are being constructed pursuant to authority granted the Municipality under the provisions of Chapter 397 o'f the Code of Iowa, 1962. By virtue of statutory authority, preference will be given to products and provisions prown and coal produced within the State of Iowa, and to Iowa domestic labor. Plans and specifications and form of contract governing the construction of the proposed Improvements and extensions, and also the prior proceedings of the Board referring to and defining said proposed improvements and extensions, are hereby made a part of this notice and the proposed contract or contracts by reference and the proposed contract or contracts shall be executed in compliance therewith. Plans and specifications and form of contract are now on file In the office of the Secretary ot the Board, Algona, Iowa, where they may be examined by any Interested party. Copies may be obtained from Buell and Winter Engineering Company of Sioux City, Iowa. A deposit of $10.00 for one set of plans and specifications will be required, all of which will be refunded to bona-flde bidders who bid In their own name, provided plans and specifications are returned In good condition within fourteen (14) days after receipt of bids, and not otherwise.
