UffU 0" M»ln*» TuMdey, July 13, Three-Fourths Million Rood Work Slated Almost 28 miles of Kossuth county highways will be resurfaced and improved this summer, due to action of the Iowa State Highway Department this week. Highway 226, from the Junction of highway 18 to Titonka, an 11- mile stretch, will be resurfaced at an estimated cost of $365,700, and 16.9 miles of highway $, from the Emmet county line to the Junction with 169 near Lakota and Iowa highway 250 from Lakota north to highway 9 will be improved, with cost estimated at $397,661. Approval and letting of bids on the work was completed by the Highway Department Wednesday. I CouncilMinute* | The City Council met June 30, 1965 with Mayor Finn and the following council members present: Muckey, Andreasen, Elbert, Cook, Miller and Peirce. Minutes of last meeting were approved. Resol. approving the execution of a first amendment to grant agreement, for the development of the Algona Airport, was adopted. This means the city gets $147.29 more from the Federal Govt. for said project. 1965 storm sewer plans were adopted and Reding Gravel Excavating of Algona submitted the low bid of $11,975.50 which was accepted. Three beer permits^ 5 liquor- permits and 27 cigarette permits were approved. The City received a proposal from E. Walter and H. Peters to buy that portion of the alley bordering their property in Blk. 194 Calls Add. which will be acted upon by the Council at their July 28, 1965 meeting. Letter was read from the Iowa Inspection Bureau concerning the successful test of the new fire truck. Letter was read from the Snap- on Tools Corp. extending their thanks for the hospitality given to their Board of Directors by this community. Ralph Elbert gave a report on the recent fire school he attended. "... Thought he'd kill two birds with one stone!" Petition of 150 names was read to further investigate the possibility of establishing a Spat System in Algona. The Mayor appointed the Ways & Means Committee to check on same. Authorized street grades, on W. Call from Williams to Lowe and one block north of Call on Lowe, to be established. Authorized to pay 1/2 of the cost of sidewalk repair at L. Winkel residence because of the change of street grade. Authorized the clerk's office to buy a new typewriter. Moved and seconded the meeting adj. D. A.
