THE ENQUIRER, CINCINNATI, FRIDAY, JULY 26, 1940 17 GENERAL PRODUCE MARKETS Rush shipments of new wheat continued yesterday from Ohio and Indiana country elevators. Receipts were 120 cars, compared with 160 the day previous, and indications pointed to a continued heavy movement for the balance of the week, and perhaps carrying over until the middle or last of next week. Receipts of trucked wheat at Reading elevators were not so heavy as last week, but ranged around 60 truckloads daily. Prices paid for shipments were about the same, dealers said, running about 72 cents a bushel for No. 2.

The ruling prices for No. 2 red winter rail deliveries was about 80 cents a bushel, according to billings. Peach shipments also were heavy and prices weaker, due to pressure to get rid of offerings for fear of heat damage, Few changes were made in prices of other fruits and vegetables. Watermelons continued strong, with prices slightly higher for top quality fruit. Sales were active.

No changes were made in local prices of fresh eggs. Extra firsts closed firm, due to scarcity and heavy supplies of seconds, caused by heat damage to current receipts. Springers were best sellers in a dull market for poultry. Prices ruled steady at unchanged quotations. Demand for fryers for the week end trade showed improve- ment.

GENERAL PRODUCE LIVESTOCK Cincinnati livestock market, as reported by the Agricultural Marketing Service of the United States Department of Agriculture for Thursday, July 25: Cattle-209. A few individual grass heifers were disposed of at prices as high as $8.75 and $9 but the rank and file of the material available ranged at prices downward from $8.50 to around the $6 mark. Some of the cuttery end.

in fact sold as low as $5. Individual medium beef cows sold as high as $6.25 but most of the cow contingent consisted of cutter and canner kinds. Cutters in general were eligible at around $1.25 to $5.25 while canners, when wanted at all, went on a basis of $3 to $4, the thin lightweight "shelly" end at downward to $2. Light weight sausage bulls for the most part sold at $5 to $6 with only the best weighty sausage makers eligible as high as $6.50. Vealers, 157.

Steady. Good and choice offerings in general cashed at $8.50 to $9 with medium kinds at around $8 and little available in the day's receipts of value to sell at $7 and below. Weighty offerings were again selling at discounts of 50c to $1 below lighterweights of comparable quality, or at $8.50 downward in not infrequent instances. Hogs-771. Salable receipts of hogs fell off with recent declines in price levels and the inability of countrymen to move hogs satisfactorily at the prevailing high temperatures.

The market, despite the numerical decrease, however, failed to respond, with with exceedingly little on sale for this time of the week prices were maintained on a largely steady basis. The top price, paid again for 180-250 lb weights, remained at $6.60 and most sows cleared at $4.25 to $4.75. Predominant supply of common and medium grades continued relatively hard to move, opened steady to weak and also closed 25c and more lower. Quite a few lots of good to choice truckedin spring lambs were bought from $8.75 to $9.25, but it was hard to get over $9 after around 11 a. m.

However, strictly choice ewe and wether springers were too scarce to test the upper price limit. Common and medium grades bulked from $6 to $8, mixed lots of medium and good offerings to $8.25 and $8.50. Culls were taken from around $5.50 down. Culls were to $5. Buck lambs were discounted the usual 50c or more under similar ewes and wethers.

Slaughter ewes were in very light supply and sold at $3 and less, old thin lightweights from $1 to $1.50. Chicago, July 25-(AP)-(United States Department of Agriculture)-Salable hogs total slow and uneven, but mostly steady with Wednesday's average; top bulk good and choice 200-240 lbs 240-270 lbs largely most 270-300-lb averages some 300-330 lbs 5.40@5.75; most packing sows 330 lbs down with 360-500 1b kind shippers took 500; holdovers 1,000. Salable cattle calves grain fed steers and yearlings fully steady with Wednesday's decline; others slow, weak to lower; most fed kinds best yearlings $11; choice Wyomings nothing strictly choice here; heifers scarce, steady at $10.25 down; cows dull but scarce and steady; bulls weak with nothing above vealers weak to 25c lower; loss on weighty kinds; few choice light weights stockers slow. Salable sheep spring lambs mostly lower; natives sharing most decline; very few best natives at bulk best Westerns $8.85: straight or lightly sorted; others yearlings steady; best dry-fed others fat sheep scarce, steady; bulk slaughter ewes $3.50 down.
