(Political Advertisement TO THE VOTERS The campaign is now about over. I have done the best that I could to see you all but this was impossible owing to the short time since I concluded to be a candidate in the' interest of temperance.

I have tried to get the people to understand the real issues involved. I have played a loan hand and like Elijah I have stood against the prophets of Baal. The people who are opposing me have industriously and persistently misrepresented me by claiming that I am running in the interest of one of the other candidates. This I would not do if I could and I could not if I would. My being a candidate cannot possibly help Mr.

Langham, for he must get more votes than Mr. Telford and myself or there will be two candidates at the general election. The question is which one of the three will be eliminated at primary. I expect to beat one or both of them at the primary and the other at the general election. It is now up to the voters say whether they want a temperance man or a booze man.

How long halt ye between 0- pinions? If the Lord God worship him, but if Baal, then worship him. If you want a temperance man vote for Mr. Langham If you want a man who has always grantetd license and who along with his friends are saying he can't refuse license under the Brooks Law, vote for Mr. Telford. Other judges have refused licenses where Mr.

Telford and his friends say he can't and they have been sustained by both the Superior and the Supreme Courts of the State. Do Mr. Telford and his friends know more than the higher courts or are they conducting a campaign of deceit? If Mr. Telford and Mr. Pierce and his other friends and supporters were really as much interested In temperance and the welfare of the county as they claim they should all be supporting me instead of trying to deceive the honest voters as to my candidacy.

It is true I was late in starting but that should not be a- rainst me for it has been said "The last shall be first." I did not go into the fight until I had discovered that there was great opposition to both the other candidates, and that there was much objection to Mr. Telford from people whom I naturally exvietd to be for him, and from lots of good conscientious Christians who refused to believe that Mr. Telford is or will be a temperance Judge. The people do not believe in homeopathic doses when it comes to administering law either as to license, speakeasjes or graft. The Brooks Law provides that licenses shall only be granted to persons of good moral character.

On this subject another member of the Indiana County bar says, "A man who will sell booze would spread small-pox germs for money. As between Mr. Telford and myself the people favoring temperance should select the man who stands for what they want and the man who ran make the strongest fight against the booze interest at the general e- lection. I can 00 this for the following reasons: 1. I have never had an office and never asked for one before.

Mr. Telford has had 11 years. 2. I am well qualified for the place by 24 years of extensive pracvice in the trial of cases in our courts while neither of the others ever tried any cases worth mentioning. I have never granted licenses.

and Mr. Telford has. 3. He says he cannot refuse licenses under the Brooks Law without r'emonstrances or charges being filed. I say a Judge can do so and that when they have done SO the higher ourts have sustained them.

Lastly, I wish to say that whether am elected or not I shall always have the satisfaction of knowing that I made a clean campaign in the interest of righteousness and temperance, and gave the people the opportunity to choose between temperance and booze. West Wheatfield Roy Mahoning Maude Big Run' (Political Advertisement) TO THE ELECTORATE OF INDIANA COUNTY I have lived life in Indiana County and all my interests and aftections, ambition are to be centered President I Judge have of the Court of Common Pleas of my home county and am making my appeal to you who are to decide the question of preference between the candidates at the primaries next Tuesday.

I thought of being a candidate ten years ago but upon reflection concluded to step aside i in the interest of older men with the understanding that I would be a candidate at this time. It has been my effort to make a dignified campaign and not to indulge either in unfair criticisms or in the spreading reports about any other candidate. I shall maintain this position until the end. If elected, as I confidently expect to be, it shall be my constant effort preserve the best traditions of our Bench in the administration of the law. The people of Indiana County have honored me beyond my deserving no doubt, and I have always felt a responsibility for the confidence they have placed in me.

If they should again give me a vote of confidence at the coming primaries, it will only add strength to by determination to serve them so as to promote morals of the community and the best interests of society. We have a county, rich in resources, and just fairly started on the road to successful development. My sympathies are with the public spirited people who are always willing to lend a helping hand in promoting industrial growth, business enterprise, educational standards, good morals and civic righteousness. All of these things should go hand in hand in order that the best type of citizenship may be developed. During the campaign some falsehoods have been circulated which it seems to me it is proper that I should answer.

It is said that the Independent Brewing Company and other liquor interests are financing my campaign. I desire to stamp this as absolutely false. There is not a word of truth in it. I have served notice on all persons interested in the liquor traffic who have said anything to me on the subject that I would not accept their financial assistance and did not solicit their support. Not one penny of liquor monev or money coming from any liquor interest has been used in my behalf nor will I permit it to be used.

I am making my own campaign, paying my own expenses and will owe allegiance only to the good people of the county if elected judge. As I read the opinion of Judge Telford in granting the license at Glen Campbell at the last license court there can be very little difference of opinion between us on the law applicable to the granting of licenses. His views seem to be very clearly expressed in that opinion and since it is the latest utterance of the court upon the subject, I have the right to assume that it represents his final and settled views of the law. Of course, no aspirant for the judicial office has a right to pre-judge cases that may arise before him even in the license court. Our Superior Court has held that this unfits a judge if elected after making such a promise to sit in the license court.

I can only say, and Judge Telford can say no more, and has said 110 more, that if elected I shall give the question of the granting of license fair and judicial consideration upon the facts as presented, and will render a decision under the law and facts, having due regard to the right of the good citizens to and remonstrate as law provides. In all such cases the good order of the community should be upheld by the proper enforcement of the law. I want to see Indiana County a fitting place for our best people. It is the function of the legislature to make the laws and of the courts to enforce them. The courts as well as the people are bound by the law and cannot ignore it.

My own opinion is that the local option system is the best way to handle the license and this 110 doubt will come in due time. When that system prevails every man can vote his own convictions upon this question. It is also reported that a large majority of the members of the bar are against me. My answer is that a majority of the members of the bar have given me to understand that they would support my candidacy and vote for me at the primaries. It is pleasing to note that in this list are several of the most distinguished and influential members of the local bar.

It occurred to me that I should at least this much lest my silence might be construed to be an admission of the truth of these false reports. It has been my privilege to serve the people of Indiana a County in many capacities and I always endeavored to render that service faithfully and well. I thank the people of the county for the confidence they have reposed in me in the past, and desire to assure them that if elected to the high office for which I am an aspirant shall deem it a sacred duty to so administer the affairs of the courts as keep taxation within proper limits, to expedite business, to decide cases promptly, and to give every man whether he be rich or poor, high or low, the protection of the law in cases that may arise. In a general way I have thus indicated my views on subjects in which you may be interested and expressed my views of the judicial office. I leave the matter in hands and will be content with your decision whatever it may be.

But no matter what your views may be in the judicial question let us all join hands and pull together for the good of Indiana whose hills and valleys, like painter's brush, furnish the landscape so dear to the hearts of our youth and so beautiful to the visions of our mature years. Come and see me after the primaries and we will have a handshake anyhow. Yours for success, J. N. LANGHAM.

J. McGinity Co. 26 East Market St. BLAIRSVILLE, PENNA. Leave Orders for PIANO TUNING WHY I AM NOT A CANDIDATE In view of the fact that the present issue of the last one that will anterprisetore the primary election and that its columns recently have been taken up with the setting forth by quite a large number of our fellow citizens of the reasons they have for being in field, we think it in keeping with the eternal fitness of things that we should state a few of the reasons bearing on the question as to why we are not.

We might say negatively that it is not because we do not have prior claims for we have been a resident of this county just two-thirds of the time that this land of the free has had an existence and our forefathers took a full hand in bringing it to life and in sustaning it ever since, nor is it because we have failed to vote, for if we live to vote next Tuesday we shall have voted without variation sixtyfive years. But we are not a candidate first, because it is said that the office should seek the man and we had no intimation of that on the part of any one. Then we are not a candidate because of a natural disinclination to add to the cloud of gloom that will doubtless prevail after all the votes shall have been recorded. Again, we are not a candidate because of fear of reputation. Like the Colored brother who hid behind a tree at the time of a battle during the Civil war, and being reminded by a passing officer that he was liable to lose his reputation by SO doing.

replied: "What is man's reputation worth when the bref's so out of him," we think the same would apply if one should lose his reputation in a political contest. We are not a candidate because there are so many hyphenated politicians in all parties except the Prohibition, and if we came out in that party we would not be drunk surprised the to night hear that before we doing had been. Then we are not a candidate because we are not posted as to what may be regarded as contraband of war or conditional contraband in this conflict. Then we are not a candidate for fear of heart failure, as we might suddenly become a political dead duck. Finally we are not a candidate because of past experience.

By choice of the Board we served three months on the Town Council of Blairsville and we never before knew how infinitely ornery we were, or at least were charged with being. JOSEPPH MOORHEAD MEETING OF PRESBYTERY The Presbytery of Blairsville held its fall meeting in Ebensburg on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. The Christian work devolving upon the body, was reported as being prospering along all lines, and the outlook for the future promising. One of the most pleasing incidents, to the local Church was the fact that George M. Hill, a member of Blairsville Church, who was at the meeting, taken under the care of Presbytery as a candidate for the Gospel Ministry.

Rev. M. M. McDivitt F. B.

Andre represented the local Church. (Political Advertisement) R. J. HOOD For County Auditor I am a candidate for County Auditor on the Republican ticket and from the fact that the salary connected with the office does not justify me in making a canvass of the county, I have been unable to see many of the voters, and take this means of soliciting their support on next Tuesday. If favored with the election, I will continue 1 to give my very best service to the office.
