1 nAt, I U.lrn Bhwu may make contributions to the Mr. Nowakowski emigrated to Montreal before moving to Detroit in 1949. He attended Chrysler Institute of Engineering and worked as a body engineer at Ford Motor Co. from 1953 until he retired in 1983. Mr.

Nowakowski did not enjoy speaking about the trauma he and his family encountered at the beginning of World Warn. "He did not talk about it," his widow said. "When our daughter was in grade school one of the projects was to write a family history. I insisted that he sit down and recall his experience. One of the most dramatic parts was when he was escaping with a friend.

They were being shot at He kept running and running and did not realize his friend had not made it He said he would fall asleep some days and wake up and be covered with snow. This is a very common story among the survivors of World War II in Poland." Mr. Nowakowski of Dearborn Heights took a keen interest in the arts and his heritage. He was a member of the Detroit Institute of Arts Founders Society, Friends of the Michigan Opera Theatre, the Polish Air Force Veterans Association, Friends of Polish Art and the American Polish Engineering Association. In addition to his wife, Mr.

Nowakowski is survived by his daughter, Maria Conrado; his brother and several nieces and nephews. His body will lie in state today at 9:30 a.m. at St Anselm Church, 17650 W. Outer Drive, Dearborn Heights. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m.

Once, she met two women who lost their children to cancer "When you lose a child, it doesn't matter how you lost the child," the 59-year-old West Bloomfield Township resident who has been volunteering for seven years, said. "At that point I was able to help someone else." Hospice of Michigan, a nonprofit organization that helps provide care for the dying, needs more help especially in Troy, Rochester, Auburn Hills and Brighton. The 17-year-old organization is looking for volunteers who can run errands for families, be companions to patients or do clerical work. Hours are flexible. All volunteers must go through an eight-hour training session.
