The redesigned building contained a theater-auditorium, a 93-foot-diameter geodesic dome by Buckminster Fuller and a city-of-the-future display.

The building later burned down. Mr. Brown designed homes in Franklin Village, Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills and the Grosse Pointes in the 1930s, '40s, and '50s. The last big home he designed was a $600,000 mansion on Provencal in Grosse Pointe Farms. It was finished in 1973.

Mr. Brown was among the first 400 bridge life masters in the United States. He won the NAC Life Master Pairs Championship in 1957 and finished second at the 1957 De La Rue International Pairs Championship in London. He belonged to Grosse Pointe Memorial Church and many clubs. Besides his son, he is survived by a daughter, Catherine Brown, and a brother, Max.

A service was held Thursday at his church. By Daniel G. Fricker FVee Press Staff Writer H. Sanborn Brown, a Grosse Pointe Farms architect who redesigned the Ford Rotunda for the auto company's 50th anniversary and designed Hazel Park Race Track, died of kidney failure Saturday at home. Mr.

Brown, 90, was a bridge master who represented the United States at a 1957 international championship. His wife, Virginia, died in 1994. "He was very dedicated to work. He was very dedicated to bridge. He provided a stable home," said his son, Edward.

"Unfortunately, work and bridge sometimes interfered with vacations." Mr. Brown was born in Detroit, and a descendant of telegraph inventor Samuel Morse. The family had come to, Detroit from New England via St Clair. He graduated from the University of Michigan in 1929 with an architectural engineering degree. He was self-employed.

-Schoenherr, Steriino Hts. In state Saturday 9:30 tion Friday 12-9 p.m. Detroit Tigers stadium gets extension The Detroit Tigers have a new deadline to start construction on a baseball stadium east of Woodward Sept 5. The state Renaissance Fund, which is contributing $55 million to buy land and develop infrastructure for the project granted the Tigers a six-month extension at the request of the city's Downtown Development Authority, James Tobin, spokesman for the Renaissance Fund, said Thursday. Although another six-month extension is still possible, the state requires that the Tigers must be playing in the new stadium by Aug.

4, 2000, or refund the state's money. The team had wanted to break ground on the ballpark this spring. But the project has been delayed because some stadium-site land hasn't been purchased. DDA chairman C. Beth Duncombe said in a letter requesting the extension that she expects land for the stadium to be acquired by Aug.

31. Mike Duggan, a member of the city-county stadium authority overseeing the stadium project said stadium land purchases are moving smoothly. The authority may sue to condemn the land of those who refuse to sell within the next six weeks, he said. By Tina Lam Southfield Supplies sought for flood victims The Salvation Army will -collect flood-relief supplies today at its eastern Michigan headquarters, 16130 Northland Drive in Southfield. The materials will be shipped to the Ohio River Valley on Saturday.

Among the items most urgently needed are wet-dry vacuums, floor scrapers, shovels, brooms, garden hoses, mops, sponges, bleach, new pillows, bed linens, baby food, diapers and personal-care items such as toothbrushes and combs. "We don't need clothing or furniture in this collection," Salvation Army spokesman J. Hurula said Thursday. Those items still will be collected through the Salvation Army in the normal way but we don't need clothing or furniture for flood relief right now. What they really need now are cleanup supplies." Next week, Monday through Friday, the Army will collect flood-relief supplies in Southfield for a second shipment a.m.

By Marc Seltnger Free Press Staff Writer Anthony Volpe, a prominent Macomb County businessman and philanthropist, died Tuesday in a traffic accident in Mexico, near Cancun. He was 66.

1 Also killed were his son, Mark Volpe, 38, of Macomb Township and Frank Torner, 62, of Armada, in northern Macomb County. Another son, Anthony Volpe 26, of Shelby Township and Tom Stockel, 59, of Warren were injured. They were listed Thursday in satisfactory condition with multiple fractures at South Miami Hospital in Florida. Stockel is in intensive care. Stockel and Torner retired in December from the Macomb County Public Works office.

Details of the accident weren't immediately known. They and about 15 others, including Macomb County Public Works Commissioner Anthony Marrocco, were in Mexico on a golf outing, said Richard Sabaugh, chief deputy public works commissioner. The elder Volpe of Shelby Township was co-owner of the Pine Tree Acres landfill in Lenox Township, which has trash disposal contracts with Macomb County's two largest cities, Warren and Sterling Heights. This guy was very powerful," Macomb County political consultant Joseph Munem said. "He was the undisputed king of solid waste in Macomb County.

Nobody was better connected, better known or had more knowledge of the topic than he." David Vaughn, 44, of Ypsilann' was sentenced in Oakland County Circuit Court this week to one to 20 years in prison for orchestrating a deal to deliver drugs to inmates. Last month, Vaughn pleaded guilty to felony charges of delivery and possession of heroin and marijuana.

Royal Oak Township Police arrested Vaughn at a parking lot at 8 Mile and Wyoming on Jan. 13 after he made arrangements with an undercover officer to pick up a shipment of drugs to take to prisoners. Oakland County Prosecutor David Gorcyca said Thursday that Vaughn paid $700 for the drugs and also charged $500 for his services. On March 3, Vaughn resigned his post at Camp Brighton, a minimum-security facility. By Brian Murphy roodlic Catch restaurant critic Patty LaNoue Stearns.
