Wittkopf of Algona, graduated with a class of over 500 from Valparaiso University, Valparaiso, Indiana, on Sunday, June 6. He received the Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Government. Valparaiso University has an on-campus enrollment of 3,245 students. NOTICE OF HEARING AND LETTING NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING ON PROPOSED PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF IMPROVEMENTS TO THE EXISTING STORM SEWER SYSTEM OF THE CITY OF ALGONA, IOWA, AND THE TAKING OF BIDS FOR SUCH CONSTRUCTION, Notice is Hereby Given that the City Council of the City of Algona, Iowa will meet at the City Hall in Algona, Iowa on the 30th day of June, 1965 at 8:00 o'clock P. M., C. D. S. T., at which time and place a hearing will be held and said Council proposes to adopt plans and specifications and form of contract, and to receive bids for the construction of improvements to the Municipal Storm Sewer system of said city and act upon proposals received and enter into a contract or contracts for the construction of said improvements. The nature of said improvements and work to be done is the furnishing of all materials, labor, tools and equipment in connection with the placement of various sized reinforced concrete storm water sewer pipe with miscellaneous appurtenances constructed at the following locations: Beginning at a new storm water junction box manhole located 11 feet South of the North line of Poplar Street and 95 feet East of the East line of Putnam Street; the improvement extending West 100 feet from this Junction box manhole, then North 190.8 feet to a storm water intake located 12.5 feet North of the South line of Locust street, then extending Northwesterly 53.4 feet and terminating at a storm water Intake located 17.5 feet West of the East line of Putnam Street. Beginning at an existing storm water Junction box manhole located on the West side of Colby Street on the Northern alley between Colby Street and McGregor Street, then extending East 654 feet to an existing storm water intake located on the West side of a Phillips Street paving. Colby Street - State Street intersection, the improvement consisting of the removal and replacemont of the Northwest, Northeast, Southeast and Southwest Intersection corner storm water intakes and the connecting storm water pipe. All storm water pipe from 'he intakes terminating into the existing storm water Junction box manhole located in the Southwest area of the paved portion of the intersection. All proposals and bids in connection herewith shall be submitted to the City Clerk, City Hall, Algona, Iowa on or before the timu herein set for said hearing. All proposals shall be made on official bidding blanks furnished by the City and any alterations in the official form of proposal will entitle the City Council at its option to reject the proposal involved from consideration. Each proposal shall be sealed and plainly identified. Each proposal shall be accompanied by a certified check in an amount equal to five per cent (5%) of the total amount bid, drawn on and certified to by a bank in Iowa, payable to the City Treasurer of Algona, Iowa, as security that if awarded the contract by resolution of the Council, the bidder will enter into a contract at the prices bid and will furnish the required corporate surety bond. No bidder may withdraw a proposal for fifteen (15) days after the date for opening bids. At said hearing the Council will consider the plans and specifications and proposed form of the contract for the project, the same now being on file with the City Clerk, reference to which is mnde for a more detailed and complete description of the proposed improvements, and at said time and place the City Council will also receive and consider any objections to said plans, specifications and form of contract made by any interested party. Payment for the said improvements will be made from cash on hand thirty-one (31) days after completion of all work and acceptance thereof by resolution of the Council, subject to the conditions and in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 573 of the Code of Iowa, 1962. The successful bidder will be required to furnish a bond In the amount equal to one hundred per cent (100%) of the contract price, said bond to be issued by a responsible surety, and approved by the Council and shall guarantee the faithful performance of the contract and the terms and conditions therein contained and shall guarantee prompt payment for all materials and labor, and protect and save harmless the City of Algona, Iowa from claims and damages of any kind caused by the operations of the Contractor, and shall also guarantee the work against faulty workmanship and materials for a period of one (1) year from and after Its completion, and acceptance by the Council. The work under the proposed contract shall be started within 15 days after awarded the contract and shall be completed within 20 working days thereafter, subject to any extensions of Unit which may be granted by the City. The City reserves the right to reject any and all bids and to enter inio such contract or contracts as it may deem to be for its best interests. By virtue of statutory authority preference will be given to products and provisions grown and coal produced within the state of- Iowa, and to Iowa do- mestic labor. Plans and specifications and form of contract governing the construction of the proposed improvements and also the prior proceedings of the Council referring to and defining said proposed improvements are hereby made a part of this notice by reference and the proposed contract or contracts shall be executed in compliance therewith. Plans and specifications and form of contract are now on file in the office of the City Clerk, City Hall, Algeria, Iowa where they may be examined by any interested party. Copies may be obtained from Wallace, Holland, Kastler & Schmttz, Engineers, of Mason City, Iowa for the use of bona-fide bidders, at no extra cost.
