"A delay here probably means less money in my pocket." Two hours later, Keiffer got the problem fixed and the machine parts were headed south on Interstate 75. Reed said trucks that are detained generally have missing or incomplete manifests, which list what is being transported, where it came from and where it's going.

On most days, the line of tractor-trailers entering the United States from Canada snakes halfway across the Ambassador Bridge as drivers await clearance from U.S. Customs officials. The trucks carry machine parts, new minivans, live pigs, designer clothing, toys.

"We get just about everything coming through here," said Patrick Reed, a supervisory inspector who's been on the job 16 years. U.S. Customs officials estimate more than 1.1 million tractor-trailers crossed the bridge from Canada into the United States in 1995. On a recent day, customs inspectors stopped Andrew Keiffer, a 41-year-bld truck driver from Toronto, after he crossed the bridge with a load of machine parts headed for a food processing plant in Tennessee. By David Josar and Jeffrey Savitskie The Detroit News FBI agents in Metro Detroit were chasing tips this weekend that they hoped would lead to the arrest of a 41-year-old convicted child molester, reportedly seen last in Warren. Rickey Allen Bright was paroled in January after serving 15 years for a conviction in a child Bex case. The South Carolina native was charged in October with the kidnapping, rape and sexual assault of a 9-year-old North Carolina girl. The FBI is seeking Bright on charges he fled North Carolina to avoid prosecution. FBI Special Agent Dawn Moritz said the agency has received several calls the past few days from Metro Detroit residents who saw Bright, but the former bowling alley mechanic is still free.

Officials said the search continued Sunday. Moritz said fugitives often simply move from community to community and do not necessarily have ties to the areas. Bright was added to the FBI's "10 Most Wanted" list Dec. 15. In October and November, he was living in Akron, Ohio, where he did maintenance work at a bowling alley under the alias Allen Barker, the FBI said.

Before that, he was in eastern Kentucky and Charleston, W.Va., where he visited relatives. "We've been alerted that he apparently frequents an area of Warren along the Eight Mile corridor," Macomb County Sheriffs Detective Mark Sanborn said. Bright, a white male, about 5 feet 10 inches and 175 pounds, was believed to have been living in a motel in that area, police said. He was last seen driving a silver 1987 Chevrolet Cavalier with a North Carolina license plate. Bright has receding brownish-red hair, blue eyes and wears glasses.

He previously worked as a chauffeur and home repair worker. The fugitive is known to frequent country music bars and has played drums in country bands. He is active in Baptist and nondenominational churches, regularly participating in religious and social activities, the FBI said. He is considered armed and dangerous. 1 Check with the leasing dealers below before you buy! Leasing now is one of the most advantageous ways to drive a new car.
