A Wheatley, Ontario, native, she went on a 1973 tour of American Baptist mission work in Southeast Asia, after which she visited Michigan churches to speak about her experiences. Much of it was behind the scenes and unknown to others, but she also held leadership roles in the church. Mrs.

Pickering of Detroit died of a heart attack Thursday, Feb. 29, 1996, at Oakwood Hospital in Dearborn. She was 86. At the time of her death, Mrs. Pickering was president and program chairwoman of the church's women's society, a position she repeatedly had held through the ial in White Chapel Memorial Cemetery in Troy.

Memorials may be sent to the American Lung Association of Michigan, 18860 W. 10 Mile, Southfield, Mich. 48075. Kenneth Driver Retired manager of Hobart Bros. Kenneth Harold Driver, 72, of Port Austin, died of cancer Friday, March 1, 1996, at his Port Austin home.

He was a retired engineer and manufacturing executive. Mr. Driver was the manager of manufacturing engineering for Hobart Bros, of Troy, Ohio, 1973-1987, retiring after a six-month consultation in Vincenzia, Italy. He was a sales engineer for Micromatic Home Corp. of Detroit from 1955 to 1962 and 1970 to 1973 and worked for Budd Co.

in Detroit and Tecum-sehfrom 1962 to 1969. A Deckerville native, he attended Wayne State University and Lawrence Institute of Technology, earning a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. He was accepted into Alpha Mu Sigma international professional management fraternity after completing an advanced management seminar with the highest distinction in 1981. Mr. Driver also was a member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth; two sons, Kenneth and John; a daughter, Christine Kring; a sister, Edna Nicelyand; and six grandchildren. Visitation is 7-9 p.m. today, 2-4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and 9-10 a.m. Tuesday at Gage Chapel-McAlpine Funeral Home in Kinde.

Services are at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the United Protestant Church in Port Austin. Eddie Caudill Supermarket exec, Korean War vet Services for Eddie Caudill, a former executive of Great Scott and Catham Supermarkets, were held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Vasu, Rodgers and Connell Chapel of A. J.

Desmond and Sons Funeral Home in Royal Oak. Mr. Caudill died of a heart ailment Sunday, Feb. 25, 1996, at Palms of Pasadena Hospital in St. Petersburg, Fla.

He was 65. A former Troy resident, he lived in Treasure Island, Fla. He was a University of Indiana graduate and a decorated veteran of the Korean War, where he had been a prisoner of war. Mr. Caudill also was the former owner of Gomez Market in Detroit, Mt.

Chalet Restaurant in Royal Oak, and Clay's and Britt Lynn restaurants in Warren. He was the youngest Mason to achieve the status of 32nd Degree Mason with Royal Oak Lodge 464. He also belonged to the Shriners and Scottish Rite in Detroit. An avid reader especially of history he also enjoyed travel. Survivors include his wife, Erika; a daughter, Gina Caudill; two sons, Gary and Bryan; and three sisters.

Memorials may be sent to Shriner's Hospital, 434 Temple Detroit, Mich. 48201. Thomas R. Bernath Pioneered robotic system used by Ford Memorial services for Thomas R. Bernath, 48, were held Saturday, March 2, 1996, at St.

Cyprian's Church in Riverview. Mr. Bernath died of cancer Feb. 22 at his Riverview home. He had run the family-owned business, Cyntell Tool and Die in Melvindale.

There, he pioneered a robotic deburring system that came to be widely used by Ford Motor Co. A community leader in Metro Detroit's downriver area, Mr. Bernath was general manager of youth football in Riverview and a Little League baseball coach. He also headed a special committee for a renovation project at Riverview High School and was a director of the Downriver Hall of Fame Camp created by University of Michigan football coach Lloyd Carr. He belonged to the Grosse Isle Golf and Country Club.

A Macomb County auxiliary deputy, he belonged to the Fraternal Order of Police. He also was a major contributor to annual charity events for underprivileged children of the Detroit Police. Survivors include his wife, Bren-da; parents, William and Sylvia Bernath; two daughters, Dr. Barbie Knop and Jennifer Nesich; and two sons, Jeffrey and Robert. Memorials may be sent to Hospice of the Visiting Nurse Association of Southeast Michigan, 7700 Second Detroit, Mich.

48202. Dominic A. Saporito Versatile designer formerly of Warren Dominic A. Saporito, an award-winning product designer whose career began in Warren, died of cancer Monday, Feb. 26, 1996, at Muhlenberg Hospital and Medical Center in Plainfield, N.J.

Mr. Saporito, 77, lived in Fanwood, N.J. The designer of everything from jet transport interiors to cookware, he began in 1950 as vice-president of design for Harley Earl Associates and vice-president product design director at Ford and Earl Design Associates. Both were in Warren. He was industrial design manager for the Corporate Research and Development Center of American-Standard in Piscataway, N.J.

1969-1974. In 1963, he co-designed and supervised construction of a American exhibition building at the Izmir International Trade Fair in Turkey as part of a special assignment for the U.S. Commerce Department. He also designed lift trucks and tractors, kitchen and bathroom products, TV sets and copy machines for a variety of firms. More recently an independent consultant, he designed DS golf carts, named after himself, for Club Car Inc.

of Augusta, Ga. Survivors include two sons, Daniel and Steven; a daughter, Gina Mitgang; two grandchildren; a sister; and three brothers. Services were held Saturday in Scotch Plains, N.J. World War II. He was a lifetime member of the 12th Armored Division Association Unit SV Co.
