Savings Possible in Composition Costs In this day and age when production costs keep on climbing . . . when it is next to impossible to find and. keep a linotype operator or printer at prices we can afford to pay, offset is really coming into its own. With the automatic justifying Friden Justowriter, any high school typing class can furnish you with the help you need to set your straight matter. Better Use of Photos Even on newsprint, the fine grain structure of the offset process makes halftones come alive on your pages. And, since the process is so comparatively simple, the wider use of photos to bring greater reader interest to your paper pays dividends in better acceptance of your paper. Sharper Reproduction Since offset allows the use of photo composition, not only your pictures are sharper, but the type faces stand out more clearly, for every line is new--no slurred letters or rounded, worn type to contend with. ~ Saves Hours of Press Time The Vanguard press here at Midwest has a capacity of 16 pages at 15,000 per hour, and under normal operations, we are able to get a paper in and out of the plant in roughly two hours. How many hours dp you-normally spend on the press to produce a twelve or sixteen pager ? And then if somebody wants color ? Use of Color Made Practical Color registration on this Vanguard is no great problem . . . you can open a new field by offering your advertisers spot color in their ads-you can dress up other pages in the paper with the use of color—it's new enough to have plenty of impact. Versatility Nowhere in the printing field is there the versatility of make-up that is available to the man working in offset (the head on this; page is a composite „ . . imagine trying that in hot type! And the Welcome reverse on the front page was made of hand drawn letters.) Photograph it -draw it - clip it out of a catalog—using offset, your make-up style is limited only by your imagination. I.
