"Mr. Avrunin Bill to all who knew and worked with him helped national Jewish and social work or ganizations.

His affiliations included serving Underwriter; wife of ex-Troy mayor Pauline Blessing Famularo, a retired insurance underwriter and wife of former Troy Mayor Jule Famularo, Elgin J. Rau as president of the National Committee for Big Brother and Big Sister Service in 1941; president of the tor Co. engineer who helped design the new F-series of pickup trucks, died of cancer Thursday, Nov. 19, 1992, in his Plymouth home. He was 49.

Mr. Liljestrand, who worked at the auto company for 27 years, recently served as product manager for the truck line. Born in Massachusetts, Mr. Liljestrand grew up in Ohio and graduated from Northwestern University with an engineering degree. He liked to collect antique clocks, lanterns and office machines.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia; two twin daughters, Tara and Gina; a son, Todd; his parents, Robert and Lyla Liljestrand; and two brothers. Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. today in the Schrader Funeral Home, 280 S. Main, Plymouth.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Newburg United Methodist Church, 36500 Ann Arbor Trail, Livonia. The body will be National Conference of Jewish Com 7 37 munal Service from 1966-67; execu it tive committee member of the Michigan Welfare League from 1972-74; and board member of the National Jewish Welfare Board from 1972-75. disease Thursday, Nov. 19, 1992, in Providence Hospital, Southfield.

He was 81. He started at the federation as associate director in 1948. He was appointed executive director in 1964 and became executive vice-president in 1967. Although Mr. Avrunin retired from the federation in 1976, he advised the group's leadership as executive vice-president emeritus, Page and Aronson said.

"Bill continued to counsel succeeding federation executives, who respected his knowledge, judgment and experience," they said. Before he came to Detroit, Mr. Avrunin edited a Jewish magazine in Cleveland and was a social worker there and in New York. He was executive director of the Jewish Federation in Fort Wayne, from 1943 to 1945, and regional director of the Council of Jewish Federations and Welfare Funds, East Central States Division, in Cleveland from 1945 to 1947. A native of Cleveland, Mr.

Avrunin graduated from Ohio State University in 1933 with a bachelor's snape tne postwar Jewish community, its agencies and its central organization, the Jewish Federation," said a statement from federation President David K.Page and died of cancer Thursday, Nov. 19, 1992, in her Fenton home. She was 78. "She was a wonderful, faithful, beautiful wife and a fabulous mother," said Jule R. Famularo, her Mr.

Avrunin also was a member of Ran wholesale firm in Eastpointe Elgin James Rau, 77, founder of Macomb Tobacco and Candy died of a stroke Thursday, Nov. 12, 1992, in Mercy Hospital in Port Huron. Mr. Rau, a Port Huron resident, founded Macomb Tobacco and Candy Co. in 1950.

The wholesale firm sold school supplies, sundries and jewelry along with cigarettes and candy. He retired from the Eastpointe-based company in 1976. Born in Ontario, Mr. Rau grew up in Detroit. He was drafted into the U.S.

Army and served during World War II under Gen. George Patton in North Africa, Sicily, England, France and Germany. An avid golfer, Mr. Rau also liked bicycling and gardening and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Survivors include his wife, Gladys; the American Association of Social Workers, Association of Certified Social Workers, National Conference of Social Work and Sigma Delta Chi, a national journalism group.

Surviving are his wife, Frieda; a son, Mark; a daughter, Stephanie Waldman; a sister, Faye Hurvitz; and four grandchildren. Services will be held at 3 p.m. today in the Ira Kaufman Chapel, 18325 W. Nine Mile Road, South-field, with burial in Beth El Memorial Park, Livonia. husband of 59 Mrs.

Mrs. Famularo, whose nickname was Midge, was president of Ferndale Kiwaniqueens and vice-president of two daughters, Mary Buckbee and Cathy Gordon; two sons, Chris and Mark Rau; nine grandchildren: two Ferndale Soroptimists. The Detroit native was active in many church brothers; and a sister. groups in Fenton, Troy and Holly. Interment was in Mt.

20, 1992, in Winter Haven Hospital, Winter Haven, Fla. He was 73. Mr. O'Mara was a production supervisor at the Sterling Heights plant. He spent 37 years at Ford, retiring in 1975.

He enjoyed boating and was a member of the Mt. Clemens Power Squadron. A graduate of Denby High School in Detroit, Mr. O'Mara served in the Army in Japan during World War II. He was discharged in November 1946 after losing a leg.

Mr. O'Mara moved in 1975 from Royal Oak to Winter Haven, where he was a member of St. Matthews Catholic Church. Survivors include two sons, Larry and Michael; two daughters, Karen Ledford and Judy Rawski; 10 grand- children; and 11 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m.
