He was 'backbone' of the GoodfelloM By ZACHARE BALL Fret Press Special Writer Trenton city Treasurer Paul E. Teifer followed his father's footsteps into government work. And, like his father, Paul who was Trenton postmaster for 30 years, Mr. Teifer was "active in everything," said his son, Terrence. He was elected the city's first assessor in 1957 and remained in that post for 20 years.

He was treasurer since 1977. He also was involved with the youth of the community and was the "backbone of the Trenton Goodfel-lows, as was his father," said his son. Services for Mr. Teifer will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Martenson Funeral Home, 3200 West Road, Trenton, with a 10 a.m.

mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2623 Third Trenton. Burial will be in Our Lady of Hope Cemetery, Brownstown Township. Mr. Teifer, 61, died Sunday at Seaway Hospital, Trenton.

He was one of the founders of the Trenton Goodfellows and an officer for 20 years. He is survived by five sons, Timothy, Terrence, Jeffery, Brian, and Peter; three daughters, Catherine Rodriguez, Carol Heggen and Patricia Gearhart; nine grandchildren; his mother, and a sister. Harold A. Fitzgerald, 88, publisher of Pontiac Press PONTIAC (AP) Services for Harold Alvin Fitzgerald, whose career at the Pontiac Press spanned more than half a century, will be held at 11 a.m. today at All Saints Episcopal Church in Pontiac.

Mr. Fitzgerald, 88, died Monday at his Pontiac home after a long illness. He was a member of the family that guided the newspaper until it was sold to Capital Cities Broadcasting. It later was renamed the Oakland Press. He was publisher and president from 1 944 to 1966.

Mr. Fitzgerald was a member of the board of directors of the Associated Press between 1954 and 1963, serving terms as first and second vice-president. He also was involved in the creation of Oakland University. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; a daughter, Nancy F. Connolly; pack pumpkin 6 to 7 flour 1 finely chopped nuts In small bowl, combine cinnamon, I ginger, nutmeg and cloves; mix well and set aside.

In large bowl of electric mixer, sprinkle yeast on warm water; stir until dissolved. Stir in l2 cup of the sugar, six tablespoons of the melted butter, salt, dry milk and squash puree or pumpkin. Add two teaspoons of the prepared spice mixture and three cups of the flour; beat on low speed three minutes, scraping bowl often. Gradually beat in about two more cups of the flour, until dough is stiff. Scrape dough onto floured surface; let rest 10 minutes.

Knead dough, adding more flour as needed, until dough is smooth, elastic and no longer sticky, about 10 minutes. Form dough into ball and place in greased bowl, turning once to grease all sides. Cover with tea towel and let rise in warm place until doubled in bulk, about 1 to two hours. Lightly grease a 10-inch angelfood cake pan. Line bottom and sides with foil and grease foil; set aside.

In medium bowl, combine remaining spice mix with remaining 1 14 cups sugar; mix well and set aside. Punch down dough and divide into three equal parts. Shape each part into an 18-inch rope and cut into 18 equal1 pieces. Shape pieces into balls. Dip each ball into remaining melted butter, and roll in sugar-spice mixture.

Arrange 18 pieces in bottom of prepared pan and sprinkle with one-third of the nuts. Arrange the second 18 dough balls, buttered and sugared, on top, staggering the pieces, and sprinkle with half of the remaining nuts. Top with remaining dough balls and sprinkle with remaining nuts. Cover with tea towel and let rise until almost doubled in bulk and dough reaches top of pan, 45 minutes to one hour. Bake at 325 degrees 60 to 70 minutes, until golden brown and puffed.

Remove from oven and cool in pan on wire rack 20 minutes. Invert onto serving plate and remove foil. Serve warm and let guests pull off rolls or break apart with forks. Makes about 12 servings. two sons, Howard H.
