In an attempt to rescue one of the horses the son of Mr. Goodman was badly burned. A negro man was charged with the burning and is now in the Salisbury jail." New Ferry Announced RALEIGH (AP)-The state Department of Transportation has awarded a contract for a new state ferry between Ocracoke and Swan Quarter. It announced Friday that the $2,272,500 contract for the Virginia Dare ferry went to Equitable Equipment Inc. of New Orleans.

The ferry is set to be completed in March 1977 and will transport 300 passengers and 34 automobiles. The vessel will join 16 other such boats which take passengers on six different routes through inland waters of eastern North Carolina. The Transportation Department said it tentatively plans to let a contract in January for a docking facility at Swan Quarter at which the new ferry will dock. Ford Visit Is Planned Howard Bryan, Iredell County Republican Party chairman, today announced details of President Gerald Ford's visit to the North Carolina Republican State convention in Raleigh Nov. 14 and 15.

President Ford will become the first President to visit a party convention of either party in North Carolina's history. The GOP-President Ford Luncheon Reception will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 14, at the Royal Villa Inn on US 70 west of Raleigh. Ticket prices are $50 per person the lowest priced benefit in the United States this year featuring the President.

The White House has confirmed the President will break with tradition and spend the majority of his time at the reception on the floor, mingling with those in attendence. HARMONY Tobias (Tobe) Galliher, 84, of route 1, Harmony, died at Iredell Memorial Hospital Saturday at 6 p.m.

following a lengthy illness. He was born in Iredell County on Feb. 11, 1891, and was a son of the late James P. and Etta Lipe Galliher. He was a retired sawmill operator and farmer and a member of Harmony United Methodist Church.

On Dec. 21, 1911, he was married to the former Jettie Tharpe, who died in January 1969. Surviving are four sons, Tobe Junior Galliher and Harold Galliher, both of route 1, Harmony, Clyde Galliher of route 9, Statesville, and Dale Galliher of route 1, Wadesboro; four daughters, Mrs. John (Hazel) Green of Asheville, Mrs. Charlie (Alene) Gregory of route 4, Statesville, Mrs.

Allen (Ruby) Templeton of Union Grove, and Mrs. Kenneth (Etta Lou) Weatherman of route 1, Grifton; two brothers, J. Will Galliher of Statesville and Lewis Galliher of Hamptonville; 14 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Funeral services for Mr. Galliher were scheduled at 3 today at Mt.

Bethel United p.m. Methodist Church with Rev. William W. Blanton and Rev. William H.

Key officiating. Burial was to follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Robert Harris, Ernest Heath, Dwight Galliher, Ernest Galliher, N. S. Gaither, and Espy Mayberry.

Reavis Funeral Home of Harmony was in charge of arrangements. Teen Back Home GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP)girl believed dead by her family and police has returned home and was being held early today as a material witness in the death of another girl. Police said a body found floating in the Reedy River was identified as Beverly Brooks, 15, by Miss Brooks' relatives. Officers said the relatives identified the decomposed body from clothing and a ring.

The body was one of three that were found in the river the weekend of Oct. 19. Police have been unable to solve the three cases, although they have said they consider all three to be murders. Autopsies revealed no cause in any of the deaths, police said. A police spokesman said early today Miss Brooks had returned Sunday to the home of her grandparents, who had reported her missing Sept.

23. Officers said she had been staying in Fayetteville, N.C., with a friend. Police learned of her return and took Miss Brooks to the Greenville County stockade, where they said she was being held as material witness in the death of the girl who was identified and buried as Beverly Brooks. Mark Twain is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Elmira, N. Y.
